  I think there'll be a few more. Another CM, CB, and wingers to replace Young/Nani. I maintain that we don't need a CB though, Jones/Smalling/Evans/Keane is good enough for a season without champions league football if you ask me. Plus, if Jones & Smalling are ever going to reach their potential we need to start playing them regularly and another CB would hinder that. That said, I wouldn't be upset if we did sign one, I just don't think it's as needed as others seem to think

  Rio & Rooney were of similar age and the same price, fantastic young talent will always make the price high (especially if they are English). When you're talking about buying a player who has the potential to be your #1 LB for the next 15 years £30m is a potential bargain. I have every confidence Shaw will reach the same heights Rio & Rooney did (and £30m today is nothing compared to £30m 10 years ago! ;) )

  I think if they want to challenge for the title they'll need a top class centre back. I think smelling is solid, but jones has terrible positional sense. I agree with you when you see how much rooney and Rio cost its alot at once, but the years you get out of them it's well worth it.

  I think it's a good deal for everyone. £30m for strengthening is more useful to Southampton than Shaw in the side at the level he's at now.
  
  But long-term it will prove to be a bargain for United, so the fee looks about right to me.

  Yeah, agreed. I'd much rather pay £30m for an 18 year old Shaw than pay £25m for a 26 year old Lallana that's for shaw!

  yeah with that 30m you can do alot with it for your squad. You could replace him for like 10m and get an experienced left back, then spend money somewhere else.

  No Powell, Varela, Lawrence, Janko, Wilson or Henriquez is a shame. Can only imagine they are either injured or will be used in the United XI fixtures we've got coming up. 4 keepers is interesting, would suggest LvG hasn't made his mind up for back up keeper. No real back up for Rafael makes Varela's omission even stranger, wouldn't surprise me to see Valencia molded into a wing back though. Only 3 CM's traveling aswell... well, 4 if you include James but he's more a LB. Worrying.

  Fucking gutted, he's a true club legend. Not as good as he once was but being back up this year would have suited him perfectly if you ask me. Fair fucks to him though if he'd rather continue to be first choice at 33.
