Pre-season vs Real Betis (N): 1-0
The Arne Slot era has officially begun and it commences with a victory due to a goal created by Mo and finished by Dom. The starting eleven was pretty strong given the absences due to this summer's international tournaments. The playing style was similar to Jurgen's in terms of, out of possession we pressed in clusters and won the ball back high up the pitch. In possession we looked to keep it short, quick and sharp into feet. Formation wise was pretty similar in terms of a 4-3-3 but it looked like Curtis sat a little deeper alongside Wataru, which allowed Dom a little bit more freedom to join the front three of Fabio, Harvey and Mo. Noyni cam on early after Curtis picked up a slight knock, and he stole the show with his controlled passing in the middle of the park. It was good to see Stefan back on the pitch. Blair provided a focal point up front. Doak's trademark pace lit up the place. Jaros pulled up a great save. Only downsides were the slight knocks Conor and Curtis picked up, but all in all it was a pretty sound pre-season game and the win was the cherry on top.
With there being so many players used throughout our pre-season matches, rather than doing ratings for each and everyone, I'll just give a MOTM instead. Nyoni was our best player today. -

Pre-season vs Arsenal (N): 2-1
Another good performance against a strong side. The result wasn't that important in terms of it being a friendly, but it will give the players a massive confidence boost and also Slot and all his coaching staff encouragement that they're moving in the right direction. The first goal was beautifully worked from front to back, with a perfectly weighted through ball by Harvey for Mo to expertly finish. Harvey then deftly came up with the goods again to put Fabio through with a pass that had a little bit of salt and vinegar on it. They'll all be slightly disappointed to have conceded a goal and not kept a clean sheet, but these are the games where you can afford to learn from mistakes. All in all it was another good run out in order to build up their fitness and another positive note is that there doesn't appear to have been any injuries sustained in this match.

Pre-season vs Man Utd (N): 3-0
Our pre-season tour of the US concludes with our third win out of three and our biggest win of the tour, over our biggest rivals. Ibou and Ryan started their first games since returning from international duty and looked a little off the pace at times. This slightly led to us conceding a few chances that our opponents failed to capitalise on. But when the opportunity arose for us to take the lead, one of our brighest stars of this tour, Fabio took his chance with a deft drop of the shoulder and a slight deflection. Our second was another example of what Arne is looking for us to do when we have possession. We quickly and sharply worked the ball from back to front, with one and two touch passes into feet, and Curtis put is over the line. Kostas pounced on the chance to increase our lead after we've quickly worked the ball down our right hand side. Jaros pulled off a few saves in the second half to maintain our clean sheet.

Pre-season vs Sevilla (H): 4-1
It was nice to be back home, put on that type of performance and get that type result. Slot must feel good for that to be his first experience of a packed Anfield. His starting eleven is probably close to what he'll pick in a week's time versus Ipswich. Diogo's goal was worthy of a goal of the month award. Luis' two goals will give him a massive confidence boost and hopefully he'll carry that level of ruthless finishing in to the season. Trey's strike in front of The Kop is the perfect end for what has been an outstanding pre-season for him.

Pre-season vs Las Palmas (H): 0-0
Weirdly this was our second game of the day and it was behind closed doors. The main objective was just to get everyone more match fitness. Our opposition gave us a good test and if it wasn't for Andy hitting the woodwork we would've got the victory. Ben looked the brightest attacking threat. Darwin and Cody looked a little rusty but that was understandable given that this was their first pre-season game.

Premier League vs Ipswich (A): 0-2
It was never going to be easy going away to any newly promoted team as the early kick-off. Fair paly to Ipswich that really put up a fight in the first half and competed for every ball. Slot's use of Konate in the second half gave us the authority to be more dominant aerially and gain more use of the ball. Once we could dictate play and impose ourselves more, we really started to show how good we are and how could we can be. With a bit more luck we could've scored a few more. Mo now has the record for the most consecutive goals on the opening week of a Premier League season, to add to the collection of the other records he's broken.

Premier League vs Brentford (H): 2-0
Slot's first game at Anfield produces a win and a clean sheet. Brentford forced Ali into a couple of saves from set-pieces, which I expected, but apart from that we kept them relatively quiet. And that was mainly due to our control of the ball in possession, which was measured, calm and calculated. Out of possession we quickly got back into defend as a collective and nullified their counter-attacks. Similarly to the game at Portman Road, we created more chances in the second half once the game opened up a bit more and Brentford tried to get a goal. Lucho's goal on the counter was perfectly finished, just like the assist he received from Diogo. Mo just does what Mo does and got on the scoresheet.
