  Match 9 sees Pakistan take on New Zealand, Pakistan win the toss and decide to bat.
  A dropped catch by NZ in the 1st over, should have got that. Pakistan start nicely by Nazir goes for 25 off 16 c&b Southee. Hafeez and Jamshed start to whack it about a bit, Pakistan seems to want to win this one big time. Jamshed gets 50 and gets out and Hafeez falls just short of his, a bit of hitting by Umar Akmal and they get 177 for 6 wickets.
  NZ starts pretty well, a few gets starts but the wickets keep on falling, Nicol top score with 33 from 28, but Saeed Ajmal cleans up the order and NZ fall short with 164 for 9, NZ goes through with their run rate, Pakistan should go through but playing Bangladesh next and they'll want in too.

  next up is England vs India, both have already qualified, so this one is for the bragging rights, both will want the win. England wins the toss and want to field.
  Gambhir starts well but Pathan goes for 8, only to be replaced by big hitter Kohli, nice 50+ partnership and Kohli falls, enter Rohit Sharma, hitting the ball nicely, 2 more wickets go but post a healthy 170 for 4, Sharma getting 55 from 33 balls..
  So England know the score (literally!!) and oh no they've done it again 2-1 with Hales out for a duck :s, Wright can't mimic his earlier performance and goes cheaply. Kieswetter gets the run chase going, but then more wickets, is this the same pitch??? Harbhajan takes wicket 7 and 8 in the 12th over and it's not looking good, England have a way to go to avoid their lowest T20 score which is 88. Luckily Finn and Dernbach have a bash but too late 80 all out in 14.4 overs. They're not gonna win this thing playing like that

  Hi Russy. Thought i'd give you some company on this thread.
  I prefer the longer format of the game (50 over is my favourite), but 20/20 is good fun at times. I reckon an asian team might win it this time. It all depends on who can play spin the best. England look suspect against spin, Australia are still developing and South Africa almost always self-destruct.

  cheers mate, I guess the matches are on at odd times for most people, lucky I can get to see them. I agree with you and others who prefer longer formats as being a truer test of cricket, but the T20s are fun and get people interested from all over who don't want to watch the longer game, it also generates some serious cash such as the IPL and big bash et al, as well as the problems that can cause with some players as we have seen.
  So I say just enjoy it for what it is, fast and hopefully furious :)

  So the 12th and final match of the qualification games sees Bangladesh take on Pakistan, both able to qualify but Bangladesh will have to play their best ever, their current record in World T20 reads won 1 lost 9.
  Bangladesh wins the toss and decide to bat :-/ , I would have thought chasing might be easier, but there you go. News in says that Bangladesh must win by 36 runs to qualify.
  Not a bad start at all, mind Pakistan don't seem on top of their game. Making full use of the powerplay getting 61 for 2 wickets just having a silly run out with Iqbal going for 24 from 12. More swatting, and then there is a sitter catch missed in the 13th over. Shakib Al Hasan goes on to make 84 from 54 but after a promising start it's only 175 for 6 at the end of the twenty. That means Pakistan only need to get 140, that easily 20 to 30 runs too short.
  In come Pakistan, probably pretty confident about going through now, and it a good start by both batsmen, Imran Nazir is knocking it about a bit. 64 for 0 at end of the powerplay, the highest so far in this World T20. Bangladesh take the first wicket at 124 closely followed by the second at 126, getting both openers out, but too late, well on their way now. A 4 followed by a 6 in the 16th over sees Pakistan qualified and go to win by 8 wickets with 178 for 2 from only 18.4 overs

  First game of the super eights is between Sri Lanka and New Zealand
  New Zealand wins the toss and decide to bat, stats say that the side batting first wins here at Pallekele...
  Sri Lanka has given young Dananjaya a game, his spin is unkown, so will have to see how he goes.
  Nicol and Guptill make a steady start with Guptill getting out for 38 by that man Dananjaya, 1st wicket for him. Brendon McCullujm slaps a quick 25 and is then out, 99 for 2 now. Dananjaya then gets Nicol caught after making 58 from 40 balls and it's 137 for 3. Ross Taylor also makes a quick 23 but no other serious scores see NZ get 174 for 7 wickets, roughly par score here at this ground.
  Mahela and Dilshan get off to a good start for Sri Lanka, 17 off the first over, looks like they mean business. Getting a tournament best 68-0 off the powerplay overs mean Sri Lanka way ahead of NZ at this point. Mahela goes for 44 and it's 80 for 1. Another 39 runs and Sangakkara gets run out, and Mendis follows 12 runs later. Dilshan still looking good but finally run out for 76 off 53 balls and it's 161 for 4. New Zealand have been fighting back, the Sri Lankans had a huge lead but now it's touch and go. A fumble on the last ball by Taylor, but still gets another run out means it's all tied with Sri Lanka 174 for 6.
  A super over now ensues.
  Sri Lanka bats first, Southee to bowl. A wicket goes but they make 13 runs.
  NZ's turn and the ball is Malingas, 2,1 2,1, a wicket and that's that a win for Sri Lanka.

  second match of the day at Pallekele, England vs West Indies, both teams having had to wait around for the conclusion of the last match.
  The Windies win the toss and decide to bat, no real surprise there.
  Charles and Gayle get it going and play nicely through the powerplay ending on 47 for 0 after the six overs. First six of the day comes in the 8th over by Gayle off Patel, quickly followed by two more in the same over, Gayle starting to push the pace. Charles decides it's time for his sixes in the next over with another two off Swann, now it's 90 for 0 off 9 overs, it's starting to look ominous for England... Gayle reaches his 50 off only 29 balls. The Windies 100 comes up with the second 50 coming from only 22 balls.
  Oh no, Finn drops Charles, that may be costly, but luckily takes a similar catch the very next ball to dismiss Gayle whose 58 comes from 35 balls. Then Samuels and Pollard are both in and back out in short time, England are starting the fight back. Charles eventually goes for 84 from 56 and a scoring spurt from the last overs gives West Indies a total of 179 for 5 wickets.
  I guess England will have to happy with that considering the start the West Indies got.

  Kieswetter up first for England, and deja-vu, he's out second ball edging it away, 0 for 1 again. In comes Luke Wright, perhaps he can get some more runs. Oh no he's out first ball, disaster for England and Ravi Rampaul who's ecstatic, is on a hat-trick.
  Hales and Bairstow steady the ship for now but only reach 29 for 2 off the powerplay overs, they need to start hitting if they want to win this game. Chris Gayle takes another wicket, that of Bairstow in the 10th and it's only 55 for 3. So it's all up to Eoin Morgan, he hasn't had a great couple of games, but he needs to now. Hales gets his his 50 and Morgan starting to hit the ball about a bit, the 100 comes up in the 15th over and they need another 80, it's going to be difficult.
  Morgans hitting at about a 200% rate, if he can keep this up, England may have a chance. The 100 partnership comes up, but Hales gets out soon after for 68, he looks a bit knackered. Good last over bowling from Samuels and England fall 15 short at 164 for 4. Need to win their next two matches if they want to progress further.

  first game from group 2 sees South Africa vs Pakistan, SA wins the toss and decide to bat.
  And it's not a good start with Amla out, caught in the second over at 8 for 1, and the third over is a maiden. It's slow going for SA when in the 6th over Ajmal bowls Levi through his legs and it's 28 for 2 at the end of the powerplay, not the start SA wanted. Next ball and Kallis goes, caught by Afridi. The SA boys must be taking tips from England :P , still slow going and the end of 10 overs it's only 47 for 3. They need to start hitting it about a bit now. Duminy finally hits the first 6 of the innings in the 13th over, but then Behardien falls, 66 for 4. In comes de Villoers to keep Duminy company and they start to score a bit more freely, but both fall and SA can only manage 133 for 6. They need to bowl really well now.

  Pakistans turn and Hafeez and Nazir get a good start but both fall and it's 30 for 2, then Jamshed is out for a duck and it looks like Pakistan may have trouble chasing down the target, with Kamran Akmal falling soon after and 37 for 4... After 10 overs it's 55 for 4 and it's still all to play for. Malik goes slicing a ball from Kallis and Afridi is out first ball, it's all starting to collapse now.. A diving low catch by Duminy to get rid of Arafat and SA seem much happier. But Umar Gul has other plans, in the 16th over he whacks Kallis for 2 sixes, numbers 120 & 121 of the tournament, he's playing a blinder and soon brings the score within grasp before falling to Steyn, but too late for SA and Pakistan win with 2 balls to spare, 136 for 8.

Kohli's in and hits too, 50 for 1 at the end of the powerplay. But a good catch by Christian dismisses Kohli for 15 abd it's 56-2. Yuvraj skys one and is caught, 70-3, another wicket in the same over by Watson and Pathan goes. Next ball it's Rohit Sharma who falls and it's 74-5, the Aussies are on top. The Indians are finding it difficult and when Dhoni goes in the 16th over, the score is only 104-6. A frantic last over that score 11 and the wicket of Raina sees the Indians post 140 for 7.
