If we only took players that had proved themselves world class in a major tournament there would be an empty plane flying out to France. Rooney is the top scorer, captain and still has something to offer. He puts in consistently good (never amazing I admit) performances for England.
I think the biggest surprises for me were Henderson and Sturridge. Both are crocked to some degree or another and there are better alternatives.
I get Sturridge to a degree......as if he manages to get fit he is a dangerous option to have. But Henderson?? They guy isn't all that at the best of times and currently isn't even fit. Wilshire isnt fit either really but again, if he gains fitness he is a great player.
Drinkwater would have been a better option. Might not have been first choice but adds another defensive midfield option in case Dier gets a knock or has to move back to CB because of other injuries.

He's clearly got to be in the squad, but as a guaranteed starter, shoehorned in to the starting line-up and a formation deployed solely for his benefit? He aint that good. It's not as though we're short of in-form forwards either.
