I didn't actually know anyone that went so didn't hear anything about the headliners clashing but i know Download usually gets very good headliners, who was actually playing at sonisphere this year? i didn't hear all that much about it.

Sonisphere haven't announced their 2012 headliners yet (will do in January)

I've been to both and have to say I preferred the setup at Sonisphere as there's no clashes between main stage and 2nd stage. I'm not blown away by Download 2012 headliners tbh:
Metallica - I've seen more than enough times - and they're playing the Cack album in full - yawn!
Sabbath - bona fide rock legends but I've seen them before and I have my worries about how fit Bill Ward and Ozzy are to perform these days.
Prodigy - just should not be playing a rock festival, and will attract a real dickhead crowd.

That said I haven't been blown away by any of the Sonisphere rumours yet. If they get Maiden again I'll go. If they get Pearl Jam, Megadeth, Priest or Alter Bridge I'll probably go depending on the rest of the lineup, but otherwise it'll just be the Neurotic Deathfest for me this year.

Sonisphere headliners this year were Metallica (as part of 'The Big Four' show), Biffy Clyro and Slipknot.

Metallica were the best of the 3 headliners (yet ironically the worst of the 'Big Four'), and should have been closing the festival.

I only watched the first few songs of Biffy - Watain were playing the tent after all - but they were pretty good although totally out of place at the festival

Slipknot were just cack - as expected. I think they suck anyway so I am biased, but my mate and my girlfriend are both fans and both were very disappointed with them!

see i would of liked to have watched slipknot and probably metallica but i hate biffy clyro with a passion and would rather listen to white noise than subject myself to them,
i'd settle for being able to go to either download or sonisphere next year as i've not been to either of them once yet.

i've been to download maybe four times, and it started out being great as it had really good headliners and most of the other acts were good as well, but it seems to be getting worse. when i first went or maybe the second time metallica were the secret gig and i think the last time i bothered going some rubbish like my chemical romance were the "big secret gig"

as other's have said sonisphere definitely seems to be the one of the two to go too, if you do the vip part of camping (there's a name for it but can't remember what they call it) is very worthwhile. at download not so much but when i had it at sonisphere it was pretty sweet

that's not unfortunate, have you heard them recently guns and rose's are freaking terrible now and axle is just a joke and a pretentious cock. far better just to listen to the old good stuff and think of them like that. i made the mistake of watching black sabath one year at download because i thought "might not get to see them again" and it was shocking, ozzy just looked like a confused granddad who had walked on stage and didn't know where he was and he kept shouting at the crowd to move more etc... and it was embarrassing as everyone was thinking "we're not moving more, cause you're not that good and you're making things really awkward"

one of the few bands from that era that are still just as good live as they where is iron maiden

Yeah Guns and Roses are pretty shit now, also axl rose is too far up his own arse to actually write any decent music anymore the last album showed that, and axl rose is a total fat arse now and he looks like the thing that the real axl rose lol.

he's seriously up his own arse, i remember one gig he kept a full arena of people waiting for something like 1.5 hours or something stupid and then wondered why people boo'd him when he came on, and then they had to cut the show short because they'd left it so late to come on. i mean even back in the days of appetite for destruction they'd of got boo'd over an hour wait but now that they're rubbish it was seriously out of order

also as jlf said, axl looks like a fat comedy impression of himself
