This is not an achievement to be proud of.
I can only imagine that the deadly combination of Welbeck and Sanogo is sending shivers down the spines of defenders all over Europe as we speak... -

Welbeck has played 90% of his games out on left wing. That's why he has such a poor record. If Welbeck is to be played consistently up front he'll get you atleast 15 a season in my opinion.
Leicester have bought Lawrence from us for £1m. Good deal that for both parties. -

Powell's joined Lawrence at Leicester on a seasons loan whilst M.Keane has gone to Burnley on a seasons loan. The latter could mean we're going 4 at the back now?

That's a decent international record. And when you consider how many of those 142 league games were left wing, from the bench or for Sunderland when he was a kid, 29 goals is ok. Not amazing, but as spud said he'll be good for 15 goals a season if he plays regularly up top.
Really don't see an issue with the fee either. When was the last time an England international in his early twenties (let alone a striker) moved for so little? In a world where Ross McCormack's worth £11m and Shane Long £12m it seems like bloody good value to me.
Good move for all concerned as he wasn't going to play much at United. Fully expecting him to 'do a Sturridge'. -

Precisely, Scotty. I would argue though that it's not a good deal for all three parties. It's a great deal for Arsenal & Welbeck but we've just given away a 23 year old academy lad who has the potential to be a fantastic forward to one of our fiercest rivals. Who desperately needed a striker. And for a mere £16m (no England player tax and no rival tax)!
In the end though I suppose there wasn't much we could do. There are many reports saying that he only wanted to move to Arsenal despite Spurs' interest. Even so though we had the upper hand and could have easily demanded a higher fee. *sigh* -

How does the 'option to buy for £7.5m' bit work though? I was under the impression he was out of contract at the end of this season. -

I'm not sure either. I can only assume we've a gentleman's agreement with them that they won't just wait until his contract expires. One thing I suppose it does do for Villa is if his does really well before Jan then they can buy him before other clubs can offer him a deal
