Thibaut Courtois: Chelsea goalkeeper sidelined by knee injury
Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois requires knee surgery and will be out for "quite a long time", manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed.
The 23-year-old Belgium international damaged his medial ligaments during training on Wednesday.
Mourinho confirmed the extent of the injury at his media briefing before Saturday's trip to Everton.
"It is a big blow, it is not easy to have the best goalkeeper in the world injured," said the Chelsea boss.
Former Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic will replace Courtois, having already stood in for the Belgian when he was sent off against Swansea on the opening day of the season.
"I'm very sad for Thibaut and the team but we have a top keeper and Begovic will be in goal."

Terrible start this year from Chelsea. The warning signs were there though from the second half of last season and their pre-season this year. Pretty poor management from Jose to not sort this out in time. They've actually had a worse start than Moyes' United! -

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claims "a lot people are happy" to see his side fall to their third defeat in five matches after a 3-1 loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
A stunning hat-trick by substitute Steven Naismith secured the win for the home side, with Nemanja Matic scoring what would only be a consolation for the Blues.
Chelsea's tally of four points from a possible 15 means they have made their worst start to a top-flight season since 1986
