i'm no cricket expert as you can tell with me getting clarke and watson mixed up in an earlier post, but it was a bit embarassing the way england have been so defensive. do they know they are 3-0 up? -

I think the argument would be that they don't want to put a spring in the Aussies' step by giving them a win before the tour over there.
The weather and the fact Australia were at the crease for 2 days means it's extremely unlikely England could first rack up enough runs and second, bowl Australia out again. Some sloppy batting from us and a follow on would give the Aussies a decent chance though.
Doesn't make for good entertainment unfortunately, but I'd argue there hasn't been much of that since the 2nd test. The series certainly won't be going down in history like 2005. -

Heavy rain all night and it's still coming down now. No play as yet and they'll take lunch early at 12:30. We might see some play after that but it'll be interrupted at best. The forecast isn't looking great.
Let's call it a draw, shall we? -

Damn rain spoiling my anti draw bet lol... Unless we see the mother of all collapses tomorrow (and if we see any play later today) then the draw it is...
A 3-0 series win but will England be happy, they will say yes, but behind closed doors they need to take a realistic look and tell each other the truth, it wasn't good enough, not as a team anyway, some really good individual performances, but the Aussies will be that much better at home, and they can take more positives away from the series, after all they were written off by everyone.
So England, get your shit in order as November 21st is not that far away... -

Still raining at The Oval, and play was called off around 20 minutes ago. No cricket today...
Tomorrow is looking drier but with England only half way through their first innings, the draw is nailed on.
Definitely need to have a word with ourselves Russy or it could be an uncomfortable tour down under. -

Apparently the latest on the weather is
"It will keep on raining for much of the night into the first part of Sunday but the rain will fizzle out and it should be brightening up by the end of the morning."
So, maybe play won't start on time in the morning either... Once the follow on is avoided I can see the English batters having a swish with the bat, or at least I hope they do, if for nothing else than to entertain the crowd and the TV viewers.
Yesterday and today they were talking about the type of wickets that would be prepared for the Aussie series, and how they would probably even suit England better that the ones we had here... That's great for the bowlers but bowling isn't where our problem lies at the moment... We still have the better batting side, just need to make it happen, and let's hope Cook can re-find his devastating form from the last series there... -

i think england are in great shape for the ashes down under. i think this australian team is very average barring clarke and england are very solid. cook hasn't been on fire at all and it looks like it's gonna be a 3-0 win. can't ask 4 much more. -

The over night rain that was predicted did indeed happen, and it looks like the morning's play will be delayed, with reports that play before lunch are 'slim', so an early lunch could again be taken and some play this afternoon as the forecast looking much more promising for then.
Then it's a case of waiting around for the presentation of the urn. Seems like a bit of an anti climax really doesn't it... -

It does, and has since Old Trafford onwards I think. Obviously it's nice to have had the series sewn up for so long, but it doesn't make for great drama does it?
A bit of play today (maybe some cavalier batting too) would be something though. -

Apparently the umpires will have another pitch inspection at 11am, so it depends on how dry they want the outfield to be before they will declare it safe to go... Maybe a few overs before 'lunch' if we're lucky... Perhaps they'll show some of the women's match instead, that may be more entertaining but they are having the same problem with it being wet as well..
The series in Australia will be more exciting if what they're saying about the pitches is true, more bounce and fire...
