Southampton thought the £6.8m option written in to his loan deal, coupled with the fact that Atletico Madrid didn't pay the cancellation fee on time, meant Toby Alderweireld was theirs. Not so. He completed an £11.4m move to Spurs today, signing a five-year contract. See you in court.
More bad news for the Saints comes in the form of Man Utd wanting to get their hands on Morgan Schneiderlin before they fly out for their American pre-season tour next Monday. £25m ought to do it, half of which Ronald Koeman will use to replace him with Feyenoord's Jordy Clasie. Back to United, who are close to finalising a £12.9m move for Torino right-back Matteo Darmian. You could be forgiven for thinking that their squad is coming together nicely, but David De Gea is close to joining Real Madrid and Sergio Ramos is now staying put apparently. The Fenerbache-bound Robin van Persie will want replacing as well. Still, as Louis van Gaal says himself, "it's a process".
Raheem Sterling's too poorly to go on Liverpool's Asian tour. Though rather than be flooded with get well soon messages, he's instead been subjected to online abuse, which is probably the last thing he needs... That £50m move to City can't be far off now. Manuel Pellegrini's got his eye on Fabian Delph too, and will shell out £42m on Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain provided he can get shot of Edin Dzeko and/or Stevan Jovetic.
Chelsea have had a £20m bid for Real Madrid playmaker Isco knocked back, West Ham are in for Juventus centre half Angelo Ogbonna and Yohan Cabaye is on the verge of signing for Crystal bloody Palace. Apparently the chance to work with Alan Pardew again is like some sort of incentive. Who knew?
