At last! A definitive list, putting an end to any arguments on the subject once and for all.
5. N64
People tend to focus on GoldenEye and Mario Kart, but in actual fact all the games were amazing. Could Nintendo have gotten away with charging £70 for a cartridge that was cack? Unlikely.
4. Philips Videopac G7000
Mostly making the list on the strength of , aka the thinking child's Pacman, aka the greatest game ever. Though some twat (me) discarded the lot on first whiff of a Master System...
3. Sega Master System
From this point on it was all about Alex Kidd (built in).
2. Sony Playstation
The first chippable console. If you knew the right people (Dave's uncle Dave), could be had for a fiver. And that shit was banned...
1. Sega Megadrive
Not the SNES.

Majority of these consoles are only in the list because of the breakthrough in innovation at the time of release. They were the next big thing during a period where gaming wasnt anywhere as advanced as it is now. If we are looking purely at the technology then surely all of the new gen and past gen consoles would dominate that list. -

sad to say il be glad when there a thing of the past because they are holding pc gaming back now, even with the release of the xbone and ps4 -

I just don't think you can beat the addictive playability of the old games consoles. The games on the old Atari systems were so basic but so good!
And as for Sonic the Hedgehog on Sega, fucking brilliant! Also love the old sports games, EA sports NHL hockey?!
So for me, that list kind of works! -

For me the first playstation really changed the game. Don't get me wrong, I loved my SNES and NES, and there have been better gaming consoles since (eg the current crop of PSs or Xboxs) and arguably before (Neo Geo etc), but what made the PS the best console is the way it moved games from being seen a kids thing to an adult consumer product and developers responded by pushing the boundaries more of what games were. -

dammmnnnn u brought back some memories with the sega master system 2 lol,n64 best game is a tie for me between golden eye,mario kart,diddy kong racing and star fox i cant choose so lol and sega has to be sonic and tales,i think the dreamcast should be up there scotty -

Super mario on the Snes was pretty fantastic, but lets face it, as good as those old games were, theres a reason things moved on. Nothing realy beats Call of duty on COD or GTA 5.. I know its pretty cliche to like these games as everyone likes them, but no other games in history really come close!! -

the top game consle would be either an xbox or ps4 i mean their features and games are amazing! not to mention the graphics, just blows my mind away. i really cant wait to get a xbox and when i save enough money a ps4 as well, cause i grew up playing the playstations, but now i think xbox has past their ps4 features, i would want xbox more.
