  After spending years in development, The Dark Tower is finally about to hit the big screen. The story was originally a book series by Stephen King but the movie won't be adapting any of the series directly. Instead, the movie will be taking place after the events of the books, but it will still be bringing the characters of the books to the big screen before any of you book fans get your panties in a twist.
  
  
  
  The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland, Mid-World's last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World's post apocalyptic world, searching for the powerful Dark Tower. Located in the End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is a link to other worlds and a bridge in the time-space continuum.
  
  Things have been pretty quiet on the marketing front up until now, with fans thinking the adaptation would never come to fruition but it seems their patience has finally paid off. The first trailer has just been released and it looks pretty insane.
  
  
  
  The Dark Tower is set for release August th 2017.

  this looks like a movie i want to watch as soon as it comes out august 4th, i really like idris elba from the wire good actor, and the movie looks like a good action packed syfy cant wait to see it

  I hope it is as good as it looks in the trailer. I thought I'd never see a movie of the Dark Tower series be finally released I think I'll be reading the books again before it comes out.

  I'm a big fan of the books, and this looks like a trainwreck. Just looks like they've turned a great book series into a generic action film with sub matrix gun fighting. And whoever decided Idris Elba was anywhere close to a good choice for Roland clearly has no idea of the character at all. Looks like yet another awful adaption of  Stephen King book.

  The movie is being classed as a sequel to the books with a tv series due to air next year. I don'y have problem with Elba as Roland  what I have a bit of a problem with is there's no mention of Eddie & Susannah in the cast.

  Have not read the book or books on which this film is based and unlikely i ever will so am just gonna take the film for what it is. That said..getting some bad vibes from the dialogue being uttered here "I dont shoot with my guns..i shoot with my heart"..hmmm. No chance of me checking this out at the cinema but will certainly give it a looksee on home release. Good to see Mconaughey branching out again (after a succession of drama's and rom coms..saying that he has dipped his toe in as far as action films go before..Reign of Fire springs to mind).

  oh i didnt even know this was a existing story i thought it was all new, and me to on u hope its as good as the trailer, i seen alot of good trailers that the movie doesnt live up to

  It's a series of 8 fantasy novels but from what I've read about the movie you don't need to have read them to watch it.

  The whole sequel to the books bit just seems like a piss poor excuse to ignore the story of the books to me. And i can't think of anyone worse for the part than Elba, he's a really bad actor. It baffles me that he's so popular because he always plays the same  basic personality type in everything and his accent in this sounds like bad generic american.
  I think this casting was done just so they could try and guilt everyone whose read the books against the film by saying they are racist if they don't like it. One of the producers literally called everyone who criticised it after the casting was announced as being racist.

  Think i know what you are getting at, Jesslloydfan. For me, whilst i havnt seen everything that Elba has appeared in (including Luther), for me he certainly isnt an actor whose performances stand out for me. If a film happens to be good, and he happensto be in it, i find that his role is that of little more than a bit character (ie. the Thor films). His leading man performances to date (Bastille Day, 100 streets etc..) i have found to be average at best. The producer you mention needs to keep comments like that too themselves..no ones gonna be guilted into liking a possibly questionable casting descision just because the producer deems them to be racist...if his performances turns out to be shit, then its sht (regardless of his skin colour). Kinda like that whole Oscars business last year..if the films or performances happened to be shit, then why should they be nominated.
