Student gets pencil lead stuck in her eyeball after classmate lobs pencil at her

You know the saying ‘don’t throw that or you’ll have someone’s eye out’? yeah, sometimes that can actually happen! A student from Manchester narrowly escaped being blinded after a classmate lobbed a pencil at her from across a classroom. Yikes!

 

That pencil must’ve been thrown by Thor because the lead from the became lodged in her eye just millimetres away from her retina. 

 

The unnamed girl had to have surgery to remove the lead but has since made a full recovery. Phew. Apparently, the girl didn’t even realise the lead was there until a friend pointed it out. Damn, surely blinking would’ve been uncomfortable. Here’s what she had to say: 
 

At first I had not realised what had happened until my friend said I think you have something in your eye. 
A pencil had been thrown from the front of the classroom to the back where I had been standing chatting to my friends.
A part of the pencil had gone into my eye which must have happened so quickly as I had not really felt anything.
After the operation, I could not see much out of my left eye at all but gradually my sight seemed to improve.
I still have a few stitches in the back of my eye and also at the front but they do not affect me in any way.
