Buying a used car can be risky enough at the best of times, but when shopping online all you've got to go on is a few pics and the word of the seller. How do you know you're not being sold a dud?

What's really needed is an impartial voice giving their honest opinion on the motor in question. Like this lady here.



The listing has been removed unfortunately but here's the gist.

“My model who came to visit at the weekend loves cars and insisted upon looking at my classic VW polo and reports as follows: good engine, gearbox & clutch, drives well. The exhaust is blowing; windscreen needs a front n/s wiper. The worst bit is the rust on the wing as shown; the wing is bolt on and widely available. Driving it to her normal abilities but upon getting out and thinking that at least it runs without depending on a computer to go wrong, and having finished a bit of polishing, she decided that this car's not for her.”



Not sure about the 'classic VW polo' bit but otherwise this seems pretty legit...



...and not in the least bit odd.
