On daily use like texting, playing music and web browsing only one quad core is active, but with more demanding use like gaming, both processors become active. Seems to be a good concept, and will be good for your battery life too I guess.
On the topic of whether more cores are needed, at this stage.. No. However I think they need to introduce more memory (RAM) to smartphones! With newer features, apps and tools are continuously running in the background, so they need alot of memory to keep running efficiently. For instance on my HTC One X (Quad core and 1GB memory) there is always constantly 850MB memory taken up with no applications running. So the operating system is taking up nearly all of the memory constantly with causes my phone to lagg alot.
Stuck between the HTC One and this for an upgrade!
