  Is this a better buy than an iPhone ? It looks very good and has a better screen and camera as far as I have seen the only thing you have to give up is the Apple software which for me is no great loss . Anyone used one ?

  Samusng Galaxy S phones for me , as external battery wins it for me. And Android OS. Apple shares on the falling. Samsung will be no1 soon, just a matter of time till Apple declines

  It's a good phone, I've used the standard and the LTE version (LTE has 2GB memory, rather than 1GB) and supports 4G. I'm happy with Android OS, I have a HTC One X, before this I had a iPhone 3GS but I prefer Android to iOS.
  
  To answer the better screen question; its definitely larger and has a more vibration display because of the LED backlit technology. To look at its great, but not as natural as LCD displays in my opinion. Comes down to personal preference.
  
  On paper the Samsung has more megapixels, but hands down the iPhone's camera is much better. Probably the best in a smartphone. I've compared it to my HTC One X which is meant to be a camera phone and all the rest of it, but it doesn't match the iPhone.
  
  In simple terms if your looking for something you can customize and mess around with for a good amount of time then the S3 is a good choice, however if you just want a simple phone for music, camera, a few apps here and there, then the iPhone is better!

  Camera testing has to be done properly. People take photos and just view them on the phone screen. That is not cool. I shot video at 1080p HD on my galaxy s2 and uploaded the mp4 hd files on me 50inch samsung flat screen . I was blown away with the quality. no wonder jessops went bust. !

  Yeh I agree, I did do some proper testing a while back. The picture quality on the S3 was just too 'grainy' and lacked that sharpness the iPhone captures. This shows even more when you zoom into the picture. Same can be said for the One X. Haven't really tested the video quality!

  If you do try the video quality testing with your s3, make sure you have a fast memory card, ie a class 10 card, that is what is needed for a fast write speed when recording at full 1080p hd . they can ne picked up cheap at amazon or ebay.

  Haven't got an S3 mate :P, have the HTC One X. I guess it all does come down to preference. I can imagine the vivid and vibrant playback on a Samsung phone and TV (assuming the Samsung TV you mentioned is LED backlit), but It's too unnatural for me.
  My good mate has a Pioneer PRO-FHD1 Elite 50'' Plasma TV, and I remember when I bought my Canon 600D I took some videos with the stock 18-55 lens and it was amazing! The TV is considered a videophile bit of kit and was really making the most out of the footage!
