for god's sake sack Southgate.
how long do these dire performances with the most skilfful individual have to continue before someone notices. England have the most skillful squad. what is holding them back/
we will not have the most skillfull squad forever. Germany . argentina will not lose their first game forever. unleash the skill and win the games . win the tournament. get a manager who understands skill

WOW. England will qualify for knock out stages of world cup,,, if,, they avoid a four nil defeat by Wales. that is what you expect from a team who could go on to win the world cup. they do the math and work out that a nil nil draw leaves them almost through.
what a lacklustre , gutless performance. from the opening 2 minutes when Maguire and Stones were passing the ball between them at the back the writing was on the wall.
This is a team whose confidence was high. they had just scored 7 goals and now their confidence has gone. did they even have a shot in that match., the USA outplayed them because they played for the win. Southgate has virtually guaranteed qualification to the next round and at the same time destroyed their confidence for the knock out stages.

Credit to the US for putting up such a resilient fight and earning a point.
Each World Cup continues to prove that the gap between the "small" teams and the traditional superpowers of European and South American football keeps getting smaller. Most nations now have mangers that are tactically astute, and multiple players that play their club football in the big European leagues. So the thought that some teams need to just walk onto the pitch and they'll automatically win is becoming more and more redundant.
The reason why I predicted Maguire as the first scorer after half an hour was because I knew it wouldn't be as easy as the Iran match, and that the opening goal might come from a corner, and then the game would open up for a couple more quick goals on the counter. The US were never going to start the match and leave acres of space in behind their defence for Saka and Sterling to run into, and even if they did, their fullbacks are quick enough to recover. Also the US midfield all play for really good club teams in England, Italy and Spain, so Bellingham, Rice and Mount were never going to dominate possession for the full ninety either.
Southgate understandably named an unchanged eleven to start the match but his first subs should've been Foden to replace Mount, as his use of the ball in the attacking third is better than Mason's and Grealish's. Replacing Bellingham with Henderson was a strange one, but maybe he thought he needed to regain possession more but that was a regressive step to some degree, as Jordan's use of the ball isn't as astute as Jude's. Another progressive substitution would've been to bring on Trent for Trippier, because he might be the only player in the squad that can play a pass right onto the head or foot of Kane from sixty yards away.
Regardless of the performance tonight, this result is easily more than enough to get out of the group stage. Holland, Equador or Senegal are the potential last sixteen opponents and all three teams have weaknesses that can be exploited by Southgate. -

CREDIT TO USA FOR PUTTING UP SUCH A RESILIENT FIGHT AND EARNING A POINT. I cannot agree with that. teh USA were better. they had 10 shots to englands 8. they came closest to scoring when they rattled the crossbar. this after england scored 7 . the confidence should have beensky high. they should have gone for it. in the opening 2 minutes we saw Maguire and Stones passing the ball back and forth between them at the back. as if they wer time wasting. and maybe they were.Southgate would have known that a draw would have put england in a great position and maybe he (subconsciously ) passed that on to the team. what the team should ahve been doing wa getting in amongst them. putting everyone to the sword. making a statement. getting those who have not scored the opportunity to get off the mark.
It was a bad game for enlgand and after such a highwas a waste. -

I understand your disappointment at the result and performance, but no team in the history of football ever has or ever will constantly blow their opposition away from the first minute to the last minute of every single match they play. -
