  It's early stages but the Premier League is shaping up to be a bit of tight battle at the top, unless Chelsea and Man City separate themselves from the rest, we could see a six way battle which encompasses the battle for the title and the champions league places.

  Some stats for today's match
  
  Southampton have scored just four goals in their last eight Barclays Premier League matches.
  
  The Hammers have won only one of their last 15 Barclays Premier League away games (D4 L10).
  
  West Ham failed to register a shot on target in their last Premier League match; against Stoke on August 31st.
  
  Sam Allardyce is unbeaten in nine Premier League meetings with Southampton (W3 D6).

  Afternoon everyone. Apologies for the late arrival, was at IKEA with the missus. Only one row, and that was minor, not bad going...
  
  Anyway, we're 20 minutes in, but here are the teams for the 4pm kick-off:
  Southampton: Boruc, Clyne, Lovren, Fonte, Shaw, Wanyama, Schneiderlin, Rodriguez, Lallana, Osvaldo, Lambert. Subs: Kelvin Davis, Steven Davis, Ramirez, Ward-Prowse, Do Prado, Chambers, Hooiveld.
  West Ham: Jaaskelainen, Demel, Reid, Collins, O'Brien, Diame, Noble, Morrison, Nolan, Jarvis, Maiga. Subs: Tomkins, Rat, Collison, Vaz Te, Adrian, Taylor, Lee.
  
  Good to see Clyne and especially Shaw back in for Southampton. Danny Fox scares the shit out of me.

  Never thought to mention this until now, but Liverpool aren't short of centre halves are they? Mamadou Sakho (the £18m one) makes his debut tonight but there's no place for Tiago Ilori (the £7m one), despite Daniel Agger's injury. Victor Moses starts though, so does Daniel Sturridge as Brendan Rodgers returns to his old club.
  
  Jonjo Shelvey went the other way and is in the Swansea team tonight, as are Michu, Wilfried Bony and Nathan Dyer.
  
  Hoping for a bit more excitement than the Southampton v West Ham match yesterday.

  Well judging by their last 3 games you'd have to say quite likely.

  Didn't Jonjo Shelvey have a good game, 1 goal and 3 assists lol... still 2-2 Liverpool will be happy enough, although I'm sure Swansea would have wanted all 3 points... And Sturridge becomes part of a select few to score on the first 4 games of the season, keep up that up my good man, and Liverpool may yet take a Champions League slot. It all depends how bad their bad spell will be when they go through it...

  I've put Sturridge in my fantasy team for next week, so I think we can safely say that his scoring run is about to come to an end. Similarly, Michu got his first goal of the season last night after I dropped him.
  
  Didn't see the game but I hope Shelvey got a standing ovation from all 4 sides of the ground at the final whistle.
  
  Not sure about Champions League for Liverpool. I'm sure they'll get a lot closer than they have done the last few years, but can they finish above 2 of Utd, City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs? It's a big ask.
