the second is quite a bit different, i mean the game is basically the same but it just feels a lot moer fleshed out than the first one did, it's also quite a bit longer, or at least it felt that way.
if you have a pc i know the first portal was and i think still is available for free on steam if you wanted your own version to keep as it is one of those games i find myself replaying every so often.
when you get round to playing portal 2 i won't spoil anything for you, but i recomend ever so often just standing still for a while, as wheatley (the steven merchant character) and GlaDOs come out with some fantastically funny things when you let them, it almost seems like you could stand around for a few hours and they wouldn't run out of things to say to you/about you
also as you get later on in the game, some of the things they say/you see if you pay attention to the levels really help explain the story
