  Well, here we are again. Roman Abramovich gives me a chance to give this thread a bump.
  Roberto Di Matteo was sacked today, only 6 months after winning the FA Cup AND Champions League. Even by Roman's standards, this was harsh, brutal, ruthless etc (take your pick).
  
  According to reports, since he bought the club, Abramovich has paid out more than £80 million in compensation to sacked managers. And they wonder why they're in huge debt......

  I could not believe it when I read that this morning. He decided to give Di Matteo a chance after the Champions League. Chelsea are a respectable 3rd in the league but lose a game 3-0 and thats it, you're gone. The pressure on Chelsea managers must affect the players ability to play as well.

  I think it was only a matter of time, even RDM must have known he would only have limited time in the job; heard talk on sky that Rafa Benitez have been in talks with Abram, so who knows? BTW if you were lucky, a while ago you could have got 25/1 on RDM being the next manager to leave.
  Perhaps Roman put some money on that and now cashed in to pay off his debts?

  Yeah I heard Rafa Benitez is flying into London tonight and may well be confirmed as the new Chelsea manager in the next few hours. That is not a bad theory on Abramovich's sudden decision to fire RDM. A few proxy bets on that and suddenly his finances aren't looking too bad.

  Dont speak so soon Ray. I reckon once Wenger leaves (one day), the next manager(s) might find it tough to stick around and find success. The only reason Wenger is being kept on is cos he keeps them in the CL, hence the profit. Once that goes, there will be trouble ahead....

  I hope youre right, because i like the way arsenal play but you've got some serious businessmen in charge. All i'm saying is, once Wenger goes, it will be tougher for a manager to build the same trust and backing.

  Id love to be a chelsea manager. It obviously doesn't take much these days. Six months in a job, get sacked, that'll be £2 million please!
