  :D That's the thing though, can you imagine Courtois having similar performances if Chelsea had the injuries we've had this season? I sure can't

  It is amazing what time and patience can do, especially with a goalkeeper. De Gea was given some almighty stick when he first came along and now look at him. Good on United for not losing faith and they are now reaping the rewards rather than going to a 'we must get the right man at this very minute' mentality!

  The thing is though he was never anywhere near as dodgy as the media made him out to be. At the time he was compared heavily to Hart and the media liked to (and still do) pretend that Hart never made any mistakes and heavily scrutinised de Gea when ever he made one. Sure de Gea wasn't perfect in 2012 but for a keeper of his age he was fantastic. That's what the media and opposition fans (and admittedly some of our own fans) forgot - his age. That and the fact he was adjusting to a new league which he wasn't physically built for at the time.

  I think he was handled well by Fergie, plus at the time the team were playing so well for the most part that people needed something or someone to talk about. Moyes coming in helped him as it shifted attention elsewhere and the pressure went off Dr Gea.

  Na man, de Gea had been smooth as nails for a while by the time Moyes came in. The only time he ever looked shaky was in his first 6 months when he and Lindegaard were being rotated. From about January 2012 onwards when Fergie chose him as number 1 was when his transofrmation from fantastic young keeper to god amongst men began and by the start of the 12/13 (Fergie's last) season he had improved massively - bulking up a lot helped huge amounts

  Carrick's been bumped up to vice-captain. Sucks for Fletcher but a good decision overall. No point having a captain/vice-captain who aren't good enough to be in the first XI though Fletch is now vice-vice:
