I don't get this argument. First of all, we did need a new winger. Before di Maria all we had was Young, Valencia, Januzaj, Zaha, Lingard and Nani. 3 of which are either average or shite and the other 3 being young prospects for the future. Then we shipped off Nani & Zaha leaving us even weaker.
Second of all our defence is fine. Certainly nowhere near as bad as is being made out, especially when you factor in the injuries we've had. The only positions i'd say we 100% needed to strengthen aside from the wings were CM and RB and whilst we definitely could have done with a CM like Vidal I think we did ok with Herrera, Blind & di Maria. Not getting a new back up RB/not promoting Varela is probably our biggest mistake if you ask me.
But nonetheless a window of Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, di Maria, Falcao is incredible and only Madrid's '09 window of Kaka, Ronaldo, Benzema, Alonso, Granero, Arbeloa, Albiol can match it imo
I know you're trolling but i'll bite. First of all I like how you glimpse over the fact one of our big summer signings was a 19 year old English left back. Second of all one of these foreign players that Welbeck struggled to get ahead of was none other than Wayne Rooney from Scouseland. Third, you obviously don't read my posts if you don't think I know any of our youngsters. Fourth, yep we're a team full of foreigners alright. Bloody Amos, Johnstone, Jones, Smalling, Evans, Blackett, M.Keane, James, Shaw, Carrick, Fletcher, Powell, Lingard, Young, Zaha, Rooney, Wilson & W.Keane had better get back to their own countries and quick! -

Former Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan feels part of the club's "identity has been broken" with Danny Welbeck's departure to Arsenal.
The England striker, 23, came through United's famed youth system but joined the Gunners for £16m on deadline day.
United brought striker Radamel Falcao on a £6m loan deal from Monaco, their sixth signing of the transfer window.
Beckham sad to see Welbeck leave Man United
"They have probably lost the way of Manchester United a little bit," Phelan told BBC Sport.
"Now, rather than produce, it may be the case where they are buying in.
"Someone like a Danny Welbeck has been part of United's identity and that has been broken. SO TRUE -

And? The argument is a load of bollocks. We still produce & promote youth. Just look at our campaign this season ffs. Blackett, M.Keane, James & Lingard all got their league debuts whilst the likes of W.Keane, Amos, Johnstone all got chances to impress in pre season. Amos even being promoted to #2 it seems. And that's not including the game v MK Dons where Janko, Pereira and Vermijl got their first team debuts. Yeah we sold Welbeck but have we replaced him with just Falcao? No. James Wilson is now 4th choice but nobody is mentioning that. I love Becks and have respect for Phelan but they are both wrong here. Our "identity" is just as intact as it always was. -

I think the loss of identity is a little over-romantic. It's not like Man U have seen people leave and have bought big in the past. Rooney, Ferdinand, De Gea, Jones, Smalling, Young, Nani, Ronaldo, Bebe etc. all bought for big money. There is a notion that they grow there own just because of the impact of the class of '92, then they sold Butt, Beckham and P. Neville.... -

Eh? de Gea, Jones, Smalling, Nani, Ronaldo and Bebe were not big buys at all. And are you seriously suggesting we don't bring youth through? Christ. We have one of the most successful academies in England, it's a huge part of our history that started with the Busby Babes. Just because not all of our youth become first team members doesn't mean we don't produce, it means not every player in an academy reaches the very top. Which is the same for every academy. Class of 92's are very, very rare.
If our youth can't make it to our first team they usually go on to do very well at other clubs. There's loads of them in the Prem, Championship etc
Anyway, enough of that. Look at what di Maria did to Germany last night:
Can't wait to see him link up with Falcao!
