This has definitely been our most underwhelming season under Klopp since he took over in October 2015. But I'm more than confident that he will get us back into the Champions League next season and continue to win us trophies. Looking over our competitive stats in relation to the teams we go up against and the budget he has, the only clubs better than us in that period are Real Madrid and Man City.

FSG have done well to expand Anfield to gain more matchday income, build the AXA training centre to help the transition of players from the academy into the first team, increase our commercial income via the innovative percentage on sales Nike kit deal, and the Standard Chartered shirt sponsorship deal. We'll take a slight hit on the broadcast income and prize money due to not being in the Champions League this season.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain, Milner, Keita and Firmino leaving on frees this summer, then I'm confident that we'll get at least four replacements in the squad. The change of our formation when we're in possession has given us a new string to our bow. The emergence of youngsters like Bajcetic, Jones and Elliott to regular first team squad members has been a positive. Nunez and Gakpo have impressed at times during their first seasons, and will only get better. The Europa League is the only trophy we haven't won yet under Klopp, hopefully next season we'll win it.

I need to give a special shout out to Liverpool's Women's team this season. After winning the Women's Championship and getting into Women's Super League, the priority was to avoid relegation and they did it comfortably by finishing in mid table. Competing with Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd and Man City will be tough next season but it's not impossible for them to finish above Everton and Aston Villa. Recently the club have confirmed that the former men's training ground Melwood will now be given to the women and that's a great foundation for them to build upon. Hopefully they'll be playing more games at Anfield next season too. It's good to see the rise in popularity of women's football and it would be good to see it get to a stage where fans see no difference in watching it in the same way people watch women's tennis, athletics and other sports.

It only feels like the season ended last week, but next week we start our pre-season, before our attempt at hopefully winning our twentieth league title starts against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on the 13th August. The first two games are away in Germany, then we pop off to South East Asia for the next two, and finally come back to England for our final game.

Friendly vs Karlsruher: 2-4
Prior to the start of the match a lot of conversations were about players potentially leaving us, but I'll talk about all that once the transfer window closes. Anyway onto the match, it was good to see Nunez, Gakpo and Jota get on the scoresheet. Szoboszlai and Mac Allister looked good on their debuts. Slightly disappointing not to get a clean sheet but they score a couple of unstoppable crackers. Trent looked OK as a defensive midfielder in the first half but he'll have sterner tests if he continues in that role. Doak looked bright every time he got on the ball in the second half.

Due to using two different elevens in each half I won't give boss, sound or ye messin ratings but I'll give MOTM to Jota for scoring twice and getting one assist.

Friendly vs Furth: 4-4
Conceding four goals is never ideal but the most important thing in pre-season is gaining fitness and ironing out tactics. On the plus side we did look really sharp in attack in both halves, especially Nunez in the second half, and his link up play with Salah.

Due to getting two goals and an assist Nunez has to be man of the match.

Friendly vs Leicester City: 0-4
Finally we got our first clean sheet of the pre-season but it wasn't easy Leicester looked bright in the early stages of the first half and caused our defence a few problems. Once we took the lead through Nunez's goal poaching we started to dominate. It was nice to see the youngsters Clark and Doak get on the scoresheet. Jota proved yet again that he is ruthless in the air.

I'll probably give man of the match to Jota for his goal and assist.

Friendly vs Bayern Munich: 3-4
Normally conceding four goals and losing would be disappointing but it was a perfect test in the build up to this season. Obviously many will look at our defensive flaws and the need to buy new players, but I was really impressed with our ability to attack, our new players and young players. Gakpo took his goal beautifully. Van Dijk signalled his new role as club captain with a goal. Diaz will hopefully have an injury free season and score more goals like he did today. Doak continues to catch the eye and looks eager to become the understudy to Salah. Clark and Quansah could be a real gems.

I'll give man of the match to Gakpo. Doak and Diaz were amazing too.

Friendly vs Darmstadt 98: 3-1
Well that's the end of pre-season. Out fitness looks sharp and we avoided any injuries and that's the main thing. Getting a win was the cherry on top of the cake. On the negative side we still look vulnerable defensively with long balls over the top, due to a combination of our attack and midfield not pressing the ball, and our defence not being alert to the counter. On the plus side our attack looks dangerous every time we get on the ball.

I'd pick Diaz as our man of the match.

Premier League vs Chelsea (A): 1-1
It's nice to be back, it only feels like yesterday that we conceded four goals away to Southampton at St Marys. Well all things considered that was a pretty decent result and performance. There were some negatives as well as some positives. We started brightly and attacked with energy, then took the lead. Could've went two up but it was ruled offside. Then we conceded due to not clearing our lines, then could've conceded again but that was thankfully ruled offside. Slightly under the cosh until halftime. Second half we looked a lot more stable, with chances for both teams. So a draw was a fair result in the end, especially considering that it was an away game versus a "top six" rival. I'll write about the transfer window, our ins and outs once the window closes because it's been ridiculous the amount of players that we've been rumoured to be signing. Sometimes I think the websites, papers, radio station and TV channels just make up stuff just to fill the air time or column inches.

Premier League vs Bournemouth (H): 3-1
A nightmare start with a goal conceded but it was rightfully ruled offside. Instead of bucking our ideas up we stupidly give away another goal and Bournemouth deserve the lead. We thankfully get back level with a great finish by Diaz. Szoboazlai wins a soft penalty, Salah takes it and it gets saved but he buries the rebound. Then we go a man down after a soft red card for Mac Allister on his Anfield debut. Jota poaches a third and we see out the rest of the game with ten men and Endo came on to make his debut after we bought him yesterday.
