When Brendan Rodgers took charge, it was made clear that this is a long term project so progress will be seen season by season and not by simply making the top 4. So even if liverpool were to just miss out on a place in the top 4, I think its fair to say progression is being made. They player better football now, got rid of the deadwood and are more astute in transfer market.

True, but I can't help but feel that if they don't do it this year then they'll be in for a long wait. Will Suarez hang around if they don't? How much longer does Gerrard have at the top? And it's fair to say that Utd, City and Chelsea will all improve once their managers have got the first season out of the way.

True, I agree with that. Now is the best chance as there is a bit of uncertainty amongst some of the bigger clubs. The problem of not reaching top 4 will be that Suarez leaves and Liverpool unable to attract a player of similar quality.

I was fully expecting this to run to something of a saga, but with minimum fuss...

    SUAREZ SIGNS NEW LIVERPOOL DEAL!

A long term one as well, and he becomes the highest paid player in the club's history.

Here's the man himself: "Without doubt the backing I have received from the Liverpool fans has influenced my decision. I am so proud to represent them. I am delighted to have agreed a new deal with Liverpool and have my future secured for the long term."

Brendan Rodgers: "Luis is a world-class talent and securing his services is crucial for what we are trying to achieve here. What's most important and most exciting is that, at just 26 years old, his best years are still ahead of him and we now know we'll be seeing him reach that potential in a Liverpool shirt."

And the owner, John Dubya Henry: "We are committed to working hard to keep our best players and this is an indication that we are moving in the right direction and moving at a pace that impresses one of the best players in world football."

All well and good, but I still reckon he'll be off in the summer if they don't finish top 4.

Just come across what I regard as a value bet on PaddyPower, in the outrights market, they are offering without the big 3 (you will have to click on the view all 24 button for it), and Liverpool are at odds of 8/11. If you fancy them to pip Arsenal then worth a bob or two.

I personally cant see them winning the league to be honest. They got some big games (albeit at home) against the likes of Chelsea and Man City coming up so they may have to settle for 4th. Beating Arsenal to 3rd would be a great achievement though

With 10 games to go, and playing the best football in the country and arguably the most frightening threesome in the league anything is possible for this Liverpool team. I personally think 3rd is a what they'll get but wouldn't be surprised if they win the league. The credit has to go to Brendan, he's done a brilliant job.

Absolutely. To think that just over a year ago Liverpool were in a mess on and off the pitch and fast forward to today and they are flying. I dont buy into the whole "they dont have european games so are more fresh for each fixture" crap. At the beginning of the season, everyone knew liverpool didnt have europe to deal with yet not a single person predicted them to be where they are now. So I would rather give Brendan and the team credit instead of playing it down due to a lack of european football

Have liverpool thrown it away? Bad bad result and tactics from rodgers yesterday. At 3-0 they should just shut up shop. Bad tactics. I know they were going for the goal difference but Man city have two games in which they could well mess up. So Rodgers should have went defensive at 3-0 up in my opinion. Genuniely gutted. Wanted liverpool to win it. Lets hope my team villa can do them a bit of a favour on weds. Cmon You villa boys
