  What you're thinking of there mate is the Zach Snyder/ Joss Whedon cut which you are more than right to avoid. I've tried that one a couple of times and ever made it to the end. But this is the Zach Snyder only cut that people have wanted to see for a long time which will have a darker tone and in theory should be a lot more coherent.

  Oh yeah cause you have to love the fucking GrimDark that everyone at DC seems to think is what everyone wants.
  
  Yes they have tried to swing away from that slightly - Suicide Squd, and the film about a team that didn't originally contain Harley Quinn but now does because everyone loves Harley but then doesn't make it enough about the other team members.

  I have to say that after Nolan's Batman trilogy that DC being dark is a definite preference of mine. I like Marvel films when they have all of the powerhouses combine for a movie but I tend to find that each individual hero story very similar and often a bit uninspiring and I for me this is in part to their light tone at least at point of character origin.
  
  I really liked Man of Steel and how bleak it was, I like that we had Supes snap Zod's neck and massive amounts of collateral damage, this is what would happen if god-like creatures came to earth with the full intention of destroying and colonising.

  Snyder cut now looking at a 4 hour + run time with actors returning to record audio for what is set to be a completely new movie to the original.
