THE PORSCHE 959
It started life as a Group B rally car, even dabbled at Le Mans, but to satisfy the FIA regulations of the time Porsche also built 337 street-legal models.
When it went on sale in 1986, its 195 mph top speed made it the quickest road car in the world. Revolutionary too, as it was one of the first supercars equipped with all-wheel-drive. The one in this video is from the Porsche museum, so it's been looked after... Take a look! ![]() |

But it was butt ugly. Saw one in the metal on the Porsche stand at NEC classic car show and nobody gave it a second look. Technical tour de force but never going to win a beauty pageant with those hideous alloys.
