Norway said Covid-19 vaccines may be too risky for the very old and terminally ill, the most cautious statement yet from a European health authority as countries assess the real-world side effects of the first shots to gain approval.

Norwegian officials said 23 people had died in the country a short time after receiving their first dose of the vaccine. Of those deaths, 13 have been autopsied, with the results suggesting that common side effects may have contributed to severe reactions in frail, elderly people, according to the Norwegian Medicines Agency.

so they keep trotting out the new mantra. get the vaccine in peoples arms ' "average age of death from virus 82" . " 88percent of people who die is above 70" .
like we do not care about those citizens who have made a contribution. built our welfare state and in some cases fought in wars. but lets look again. 88 percent . that leaves 12 percent. and the death figure is fast approaching 100,000 which means nearly 12,000 dead below the age of 70.
not only that. that is the figure for dead. not for the long term ill. the medical profession is growing mor and more concerned about what they are calling 'LONG COVID' people, many of them young. fit spending days and weeks in hospital and they do not know what lasting effects the virus has on them.
for God's sake PM lets have a 'HARD' lockdown. a short one okay. until the virus kicks in which you have promised us by the middle of feb.

I have just watched the BBC 10 o'clock news with Clive Myrie reporting from a hospital, frankly i found it distasteful in its shameless exploitation of individuals, staff and patients a way in which the satirical tv show 'DROP THE DEAD DONKEY' did the same sort of sensationalism.
that said in his report he used 2 words that struck home
    'IT'S MADNESS'
    and it is
its madness that this strain was known about in November and nothing was done,
its madness that keir Starmer was asking in the commons for tighter restrictions before Christmas and was laughed down
its madness that Keir Starmer was asking for tighter restrictions just a few weeks ago and was again ridiculed.
the PM looked to positives and said the infection rate was slowing. but look at the whole picture. hospital admissions are rising. whatever this new strain is it seems to be even more serious and hospitalises more people.
a tighter lockdown should have been in place in december and kept in place until the vaccine program was making inroads. it is too late for the 1000+ people who died today. 3 weeks ago it could have saved them . but do we really want to be saying the same thing in another 3 weeks.
the government has 2 cards in it hand it is putting all it chips on.
the vaccine and, as they keep telling us that 88 percent of the people who die are over 70. but the fastest infection rate is in the 19 to 39 year olds. and these are now spending more time in hospital with 'long covid'
we have to change direction now and lock down tight

and now we discover that Priti Patel wanted to close the borders two weeks before the PM actually did it. It is coming to something when Priti Patel it turns out Priti Patel would have been a better prime minister than the one we actually have. The PM countered that we should not go over the past. Hmmm.
Also the government advisory body has said it is unlikely that bars and restaurants will open before May. The p.m responded it is too early to make that decision. Obviously he wants them open and generating income and if it means a resurgence of a killer virus and people die. . . . well he can just say lets not go over the past.

I haven't worked in over a month. Lost a parent last year. I have less than a month of money left. Was supposed to go travelling get a new place but over 1000 people passing away every day...and thousands getting infected...I'm happy being skint.

Kudos on the life philosophy Buck. life is more important than money. this means you join Priti Patel on a list of people better equiped to be P.M than the present incumbent.

Another Friday and another PM conference. this time we got the news that the new strain of the virus was 30 percent more fatal than the previous strain. and the PMs reaction "it is too early to loosen restrictions' whoa . 'loosen restrictions' does he think a 30 percent increase in mortality is a good thing . does he think he is winning ? how about ,'ITS MORE DEADLY SO WE NEED TO TIGHTEN RESTRICTIONS' ?? just a thought, today we also learnt that 1 in 10 hospitals is at capacity and 1 in 3 is 95 percent of capacity. something needs to be done soon and saying it is too early to loosen restrictions is not it.

scientists are now saying that the infection rate is not coming down.yet we carry on as if it is all getting better, we do not tighten restrictions. in Australia they just had a tennis tournament with fans watching not wearing masks. in New Zealand a concert with thousands there . touching shoulders no masks. the difference. they locked down fully to control the virus whereas our PM has this half hearted lockdown with an eye on keeping the economy moving. the economy will come back as soon as people feel safe. people will not go to restaurants. sports venues . concerts while we have the death rate of over 1000 per day. if Boris reads this please see sense. a full lockdown . only essential workers to venture out of their houses. shut non essential businesses and shops.
the death toll is over 100 thousand. we cannot save those people and also the people who will die in the next 3 weeks because of your fixation on money before people but we can save many of the people who will die in 4 weeks time if we do not change course.
we are at 100 thousand now. but we could quickly get to 150 thousand . maybe before easter and then while other countries are getting on with life we will be looking down the barrel of 200 thousand dead or a quarter of a million. , so close to the vaccine kicking in it is not an indefinite length of time. everyone urge your MP for a full lockdown until mid March.

remember Boris saying "many people will look at our success" they should question that on tv never mind his " if we keep it to 20,000 we will have done well".
anyway as i reported one country that is not looking to our success is Australia. they have a tennis tournament. spectators, no masks. how have they done this. well,, they have one case of COVID in Perth , ONE CASE. and they have locked the place down tightly. that how they have done it. why don't we look at other countrys success and copy it.
we need a tight lockdown now

the government now hold these briefings basically to pat themselves on the back and say what agood job they are doing as figures go down.
shall we look at that. we now know that January had one third of all the hospital cases in the last 11 months.
the first 8 months of the pandemic we had 80,000 deaths and in the next 2 months we had 20 thousand deaths to take it to the 100,000 figure.
one of the scientists says the infection rate has fallen because people stuck to the rules over Christmas and they did not go to work so the virus could not spread.
clearly if there had been a hard lockdown in November with only essential workers going to work thousands and thousands of lives would have been saved, and i am not talking about an indefinite lockdown. with 3 weeks hard lockdown the virus ability to reproduce is significantly damaged. with a 2 pronged attack of vaccinations and lockdown we could have been in and out of lockdown sooner. the economy up and running like australia. new zealand. this weak lockdown has cost lives. damaged the NHS and left the economy in limbo longer.
it is too late for the dead and the dead in the next few weeks. but is we lockdown tight. tomorrow with a plan to re-open mid march , the rate of vaccination we would save thousands of lives and have the economy working again.
