  The Divergent trilogy brings you it's second intallment - Insurgent, and I can't say im holding out much hope for this film. If you've seen Divergent you'll know why, It was bloody terrible! A Hunger Games rip-off pile of pap. But hey, it's a new film and the trailer doesn't look too bad.

  There was also a Steve Austin movie with a very very similar theme.
  I think both of these were made before the Hunger games.
  
  Infact: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443473/?ref_=nm_knf_i2 released 1 year before The Hunger Games was written, and the japanese one was like 2000 I think.
  
  If you like the hunger games you should probably watch these too, definitely the japanese one, it's really really good. Though they are more about the survival and fighting rather than the whole goverment/district stuff.

  Yeah I love Battle Royal, it was one of my favourite movies from my teen years. Really chilling and keeps you questioning what you'd do in that situation.
  
  The Steve Austin one was 'The Condemned' I thought it was alright for one watch although Reede is a big fan of it.
  
  Can't have these sorts of movies discussed without having 'The Running Man' featured. It was great for it's time and a Stephen King story that wasn't complete shit for the ending.
  
  The coldest of all that I've seen has to be 'Series 7: The Contenders.' Watch this trailer it only gives a sample of just how bleak it is...
  
  
  
  
  
  The Death Race remake was alright too but don't watch past the 1st one.

  I never bothered watching divergent, looked too much like a generic young adult book adaption to me, and there are too many of them (ie Mortal Instruments, the host etc etc), this doesn't look all that great to me either. Plus if this is a hunger games rip off then I'm likely not gonna like either of them, since Hunger Games was just a Battle Royale rip off anyway just aimed at teenagers.

  Personally i kinda liked Divergent. Really wasnt expected and cant really put my finger on why. Just found it (as opposed to that Hunger Games drivel..urgh) very watchable. Thanks FantasticMR for mentioning Battle Royale (excellent), The Condemned (Pretty good, not gonna win any awards but still not half bad) and The Running Man (one of Arnies finest and a classic to boot). The Death Race remake though hmm, granted the Jason Statham one wasnt bad but what the hell was going on with the, was it Matt of Luke Goss follow up. Shocking lol.
