Cheeky Thursday afternoon topical debate, anyone?

As you've probably seen, the F1 lads have decided to bin off grid girls.

It's not gone down particularly well.

So, gentlemen of the Rampant TV forum; political correctness gone mad, or a sensible decision in the year of our lord 2018?

    Discuss.

It's not a great move is it. Sure we want to live in an age where women are treated equally but then we are also moving into an age where the people are choosing their own preferred pronouns. Before any sneering gets up on that topic have a watch of Todd Glass' "Act Happy" Netflix special and see if you're happy with how you are growing.

In this world of preferred pronouns growing it is better that we accept that the genders are on a spectrum and that part of that spectrum includes people who consider themselves under the category of attractive women, who enjoy being desired and seen as aesthetically pleasing to a percentage of the population not just  heterosexual males. If they choose that they want to use this "advantage" that they find themselves in for work then who are any of us to take that away from them?

The first quote from Hannah Louise hits the nail on the head perfectly, "The issue at the moment is there are too many people being offended on behalf of people who are not offended at all!" This isn't just true of models being "protected" by feminists, it's all over the place with different sub-sects of society where we have social justice in the form of people taking offence on behalf of others but it's somewhat thinly veiled as really the true motivation for these sorts of things appear to be to push an agenda while wearing your white knight membership like a badge of honour.

I'm not very good at articulating myself especially when pressed with complex issues that I have not yet had the time to consider thoroughly but they do sit ticking over in the back of my mind however and there are some out there who manage to break down these topics very easily. So here I am being out IQ'd by a young girl Lt Corbis. Now the whole video is worth a watch but the part supporting my thoughts on the matter start at 1 minute and 15 seconds.

So F1 gets rid of grid girls, Boxing and MMA will do away with ring girls and we'll see some out of work models who were more than happy with their jobs. Bravo protectors of the world, you have assumed that a pretty female representing a team in a sport is immediately associated with being sexually and morally corrupt. What hope is there for woman who find power in their sexuality.

    There's also this too.

No they shouldn't. I think darts should be banned though because it's fucking inane. I haven't really taken to the internet about that though, I just don'twatch it. Far easier.

    Activated fMR with this one!

I think the quote you mentioned "The issue at the moment is there are too many people being offended on behalf of people who are not offended at all!" pretty well sums it up, but it works both ways.  It just as accurately describes someone who hasn't watched a Grand Prix in their life, but gets outraged because he isn't happy with the way the world is going as it does your feminists or social justice warriors.  The whole idea of this sort of thing being an online turf war is massively overplayed as well.  I don't remember seeing any campaigns to force the F1 authorites' hand prior to the announcement, just a load of people on both sides of the argument piling in to the aftermath to justify their pre-determined positions.

Now obviously it's up to women to decide what they want to do with their bodies or how they earn their money, and quite right too.  Though by the same token, F1 or any other corporation are entitled to present their brand as they see fit.  No one's stopping me from standing outside my local Tesco in blue and white striped pants, but if they decide I'm bad for business then I'm probably not getting paid.

To sum up, I suppose I'm in favour of it.  Bit of equality never hurt anyone, and if I want to check out some nice looking ladies there's probably better places to do it than the paddock of a race track.  The internet, for example.

Should imagine they'll be hoping to pick up a lot more female fans once it's been made clear they're good for more than standing around and looking pretty.

If that doesn't happen, and the entire male population vote with their remote controls, then I'm sure the grid girls will return.

I'm just wondering WHY do they want female fans.Whats wrong with F1 Motogp Darts Boxing as they are? Only wondering Confused

So they can make more money???

Not saying the presence of grid girls is a massive barrier to getting more women involved, but they'll have no doubt run the numbers and decided that the benefits outweigh the cost of upsetting a few disgruntled men.
