  Shrunken 1.6 litre V6 turbos, ERS not KERS and a whole host of new aerodynamic regulations make up the biggest set of rule changes F1 has seen in a generation.
  
  So there was always potential for a shake-up, and they seem to have done just that. Renault haven't quite got the hang of it all and teams using their engines have had a terrible time in pre-season testing, raising the very real prospect of someone other than Vettel maybe winning the championship this year. Imagine!
  
  Someone like Lewis Hamilton, he's 15/8 favourite for the drivers' title but anyone packing a Mercedes engine is in with a shout. Williams could hardly have picked a better time to switch supplier and have looked decent in testing. How about a couple of quid on Bottas at 33/1? Ferrari aren't too far off the pace either and Alonso (13/2) or Raikkonen (12/1) will surely be contenders.
  
  But back to this weekend, we'll see just how fucked Red Bull are when the first practice session gets underway at 1am in the morning. And the second's up at 05:15.
  
  Hamilton to take the first race? Also 15/8, though Raikkonen won here in his Lotus last year, 12/1 on him repeating the trick in a Ferrari might be worth a go too.

  After all the wait and the jitters and problems during testing, I hope the actual race provides real entertainment for a change. You would think Mercedes are in the ideal position, and at the moment wouldn't bet against them, but I think (and hope) Williams will provide a upset, or at least take a podium spot.
  and I don't get the disparity between Alonso and Kimi at Ferrari, sure Alonso has the better inside view on the team, but it's new cars and Kimi is not going to be a patsy like Massa was so often, so at the prices, I'm liking Kimi.
  
  As for the season, Rosberg is also better odds than Hamilton, you'll get Nico at 5/1, that's having my fiver.
  
  You're right in the constructors, but with Mercedes at around 8/11, or 1.81 (4/5) on Betfair that's not very exciting odds, although probably assured cash if you want to take it.

  Mercedes look good at the moment but Adrian Newey has probably just been taking the piss and he'll reveal the actual beast of a car and it'll wipe the floor.

  Mclaren to be up there with Kevin Magnussen and the old mucker Jenson Button , with Ron Dennis at the helm , it certainly will not be as shambolic as last year .... Return of the Mac !!! Button will be motivated to succeed after his dads death . Maybe that will be the catalyst for Mclaren to win something this season ....

  It didn't look so good for Hamilton as he stopped on the track in 1st Practice, but a wonky sensor apparently as he and Rosberg topped the times when it came down to the 2nd Practice session, with Alonso third, Vettel fourth and Button fifth.
  
  Red Bull is breathing a sigh of relief, at least now they have a car that makes it round the circuit!!
  
  Last night I went with the double of Qualifying and Race win with Hamilton @4/1 and Rosberg @ 7/1 (with Paddy) and the winning car being a Mercedes @5/6, so if one of them don't win now it will be a bit of a travesty....
  
  It may be a case of if you finish the race you score points as there was lots of talk about how many cars would complete the first GP of the season, and also chuckled at a scenario where no cars completed the full race distance, can't see that being the case though..
  
  As we have seen though P1 and P2 usually don't count for a lot, it's P3 and obviously qualifying that it tends to become more serious, so another late night (early morning) for Saturday coming up.

  i personally think well see a few suprises the season i still think vetell will win come the end of season but dont think hell have it his own way this time round the new engine and rule changes make it unpredicable

  Hamilton nicks pole at the last minute from Daniel Ricciardo who has to settle for second. So Red Bull have sorted themselves out? Not quite, Vettel's down in 13th! This never would have happened in Mark Webber's day...
  
  Nico Rosberg took 3rd in the other Mercedes and Kevin Magnussen won't have any complaints after his maiden qualifying session, 4th for him, comfortably out-performing his McLaren team mate Jenson Button down in 11th.
  
  Alonso 5th, but a disappointing 12th for Raikkonen in the other Ferrari. Can't help but feel Williams will be a little downhearted with 9th (Massa) and 10th (Bottas) too.
  
  The standings in full:
  
  1) Hamilton 2) Ricciardo 3) Rosberg 4) Magnussen 5) Alonso 6) Vergne 7) Hulkenberg 8) Kvyat 9) Massa 10) Bottas
  
  11) Button 12) Raikkonen 13) Vettel 14) Sutil 15) Kobayashi 16) Perez

  So Hamilton for the win? Looking likely, and 15/8 on such an outcome is a distant memory after that, 4/5 now. 4/1 for Rosberg or Ricciardo at 8s might be better value.

  That put up a few surprises didn't it? Just shows what a bit of weather can do for you.
  
  Even worse for Williams as Bottas has a 5 place penalty due to a gearbox change.
  
  So I'm on with Hamilton at 4/1 for the double, stage 1 complete... didn't fancy the treble as someone will probably pop up with a fastest lap while not in any hope of the lead. That's 32 pole positions for Hamilton, equal with Mr Mansell in joint 6th place, I dare say he'll be moving up that list during this season... Needs 1 more to tie with Jim Clark & Prof Prost.
  
  Not a good day for the Lotus duo as they are propping up the rear end of the grid.
  
  A few glum faces and more than few smiling ones after, although Rosberg didn't look particularly pleased with his efforts, or Kimi as he planted his Ferrari into the wall!
  All depends on the weather tomorrow as to 'whether' we see an upset or not. Can't wait...
  
  If you think we'll see a Safety Car making an appearance you're probably right, the bookies are calling it 1/5... but you can get 5/6 for <13 classified drivers with Bet365.
