I'm in two minds about this act.
It could be what it seems, and he does it for the adrenaline rush of cheating death, like a BASE jumper might feel. In which case he is doing a daredevil act, rather than a magic act. A "rather you than me" thing for the audience to watch.
However, the problem is we know he is a magician, so how can you trust this has the jeopardy he claims? Do we get to see the throat lacerations, or are the doctors stooges paid to make it sound worse than it is? Maybe the fragment of mouthguard on the floor is put there as a deliberate distraction to get the camera's attention away from him while he does some sleight of hand.
The slo-mo does look convincing but the point of a good trick is you don't see how it's done.
I think I would only be convinced if he actually died on stage.
