Ok, have done my research and although im based in the uk i have researched both the number one film in the states and the uk. For some bloody reason i cannot find a date by date listing for cinematic movies and their uk chart positions but im guessing given the magnitude of the film that it was the same as the u s number one. The film in question is the original 'Superman'.
