  ronaldo is the better player now but i do hope they don't discount the fact that messi used to get all the goals and a decent number of assists, but now he gets less goals but more assists than goals, that should count for something, he should not be treated by striker standards anymore

  i said he's the better player right now, a lot of things should be considered when deciding ballon d'or. plus current form will influence the decision too

  Think its gotta be ronaldo, if only messi had won the world cup with argentina i think he wouldve got it just to cap a perfect year, although barca didnt win the league, which makes me surprised koke isnt nominated

  I think ronaldo will win it however di Maria carried Real Madrid when ronaldo was out injured.

  Di Maria was the man of the match in the champions league final last season and set up Bale's late leveller. He also had an outrageous number of assists in the spanish league. He also was a fairly integral part of the Argentina side that got to the World Cup final. Granted he was injured and didn't play in the final, but he was one of the more important players in the earlier stages. I don't think they are basing this list on the Man U form. Now he is playing for a mid-table side, that aren't in the Champions League shouldn't detract from his great season last time out.
