Aussie footballers wear blackface to impersonate Serena & Venus Williams
You'd think in this day and age people would know not to go out in black face-paint and try to impersonate a black celebrity. It's extremely offensive and you can guarantee it's not going to go down too well. However, three amateur footballers from Tasmania clearly didn't get the memo, as they were photographed painted head-to-toe in black paint while dressed as tennis legends, Serena and Venus Williams.
Penguin Football Club players Mitch Stanley and Matt Chamberlain were dressed as the sisters, while Beau Grundy dressed as Sydney Swans player Aliir Aliir. The costumes were reportedly part of the team’s Mad Monday trip to Rocky Cape Tavern. It's pretty shocking that people can think these kind of costumes are ok, but sadly I can't say I'm surprised. Places like Tasmania and Australia are racist as fuck and proper backwards. The football club have since issued this statement: Quote:The Penguin Football Club were not aware that three of our players intended to dress in this manner and the incident did not happen at our facilities, The Penguin Football Club would like it acknowledged that it is unacceptable in this day and age that three players would consider dressing for a Mad Monday as they did. Sounds like a rather half-assed apology to me. They may as well have said "boys will be boys", as it's an equally bullshit excuse. Follow me on Twitter: @ReedeFox |
