  It is worrying in a number of aspects. As you say they haven't learned from what happened with Trescothick and he shouldn't have played in the first test. I do wish Trott all the best but I think we have seen his last test away from home for England. As for going forward in Adelaide, Bell goes in at 3, Root goes up to 5 and then Bairstow comes in at 6. What does surprise me is that England haven't called up a replacement for the squad from the Performance squad, who are also out in Australia I believe, what harm would it do to give a youngster a run out in Alice Springs and have a look at them?

  If it was the 4th or 5th test and we'd already lost the series then maybe. But it's still all to play for, and after what we've just seen the pressure will be well and truly on.

  Early doors yet but that's a worryingly bad start!
  
  Trott and Prior have carried on their woeful summer form and I'd have dropped Trott if he hadn't gone home already, move Bell or Root up to 3 and get an all rounder in, or at very least a batsman who can bowl some useful overs (like Watson does for the Aussies). Swann isn't going to get much out of these wickets so we could do with a 4th seamer. Prior doesn't merit his place on his keeping alone, so another bad display with the bat and I think it's time to give someone else a chance.

  You could probably argue that if Trott wasn't in such a state that he needed to go home, then he'd have been playing better anyway. But yeah, either way, his form hasn't been there at all. Agree with you on Prior, time to give Bairstow a go. I'd stick with Swann for now though, see if he gets any more joy out the Adelaide wicket than he did at the Gabba.

  Oh yeah definitely keep Swann in. Top Class spinner on his day, and can be useful with the bat if he finds some form.
  
  Hopefully Trott can sort himself out as he's been a good batsman for England up until now. The Aussies seemed to have sussed him, but with what's going on inside his head right now who knows. Taking the step back from the pressure of international cricket seemed to do the trick for Trescothick though, so maybe Trott will do the same?
