Bairstow was caught by Shane Watson on 22 about half an hour ago but the big, bad news is that they've just done Pieterson, lbw by Starc on 113.
England now 288-7 with another 40 runs needed to avoid the follow-on. -

Yes it was a good knock by Pietersen and one that was the deciding factor in saving England embarrassment in this innings - also Pietersen's 23rd Test hundred took him past Graham Gooch to become England's highest scorer in all forms of cricket on 13,224 runs. ... As England finished the day on 294 for 7 they still require 34 runs to avoid a potential follow on, should Clarke want to make them bat again? which I think may be unlikely as I would bat again to get another 150 or so runs minimum, which would give his bowlers something to work with in getting England out a second time, but England should really get these runs, all they have to do is knock a few singles around and it's there...
But the news today should be about the weather, what's it looking like this morning Scotty? Any orrible rain clouds lurking around.
So even if the Aussies do take those 3 wickets quickly this morning, should play start on time? it won't be a total disaster for England, the draw looks safe and most likely outcome. -

Looking pretty bleak here in Huddersfield, and the weather's not great either! Am I right?? The forecast for Manchester is looking even worse, with showers all day by the looks of it. Hopefully they'll be able to get some cricket in between downpours though.
Having said that, it was meant to rain yesterday and Friday but that never came to anything, so we might get lucky. I say lucky, uninterrupted play equals defeat for England from where I'm sitting.
Whatever happens, we look set for an enthralling and dramatic last couple of days.
I wonder how Briss got on with that Aussie wagon yesterday? -

Just watching the build up on TV, as I saw some sunshine there? and according to be beeb weather I just saw rain will be appearing in the vicinity as the morning progresses.... Tomorrow looks like it could be washout...
I've also found out the reason why we are having such dubious DRS decisions...

England avoid the follow on with some nice shots and boundaries, then Stuart Broad falls to Nathan Lyon with a good catch by Haddin for 32, and a quarter of an hour later, Swann goes for 11, caught by Haddin off Siddle.
At 354 for 9 and trailing by 173, what can Prior do with Jimmy, another 20 ~ 30 runs would be useful, although for Anderson, there is almost everyone around the bat waiting for a catch... -

And that is that. 368 all out and it's Prior, not Jimmy Anderson who goes, caught by Warner. I'm surprised we lasted this long to be honest but we're still 159 behind the Aussies.
A couple of quick wickets before lunch would be nice. -

I suppose we had to settle for just the one wicket Scotty as Australia go to LUNCH 24-1 with Chris Rogers trying a crafty shot down to third man but instead edges it to Prior off Broad (he waits yonks for that 200th wicket, then 201 comes very quick).
David Warner the so called 'Pantomime Villian' goes back to his normal opener status and is still there on 12 with Khawaja who's hoping for better luck this innings on 0 after only facing 2 balls...
So Clarke wants (and needs) to get quick runs if he has any hope of setting England a target and then trying to get them out again... The commentators reckoned he would want another 180 or so to feel comfortable?!? although the way England batted this innings that should be more than enough should the weather be kind and allow a full days play tomorrow - smirk smirk... -

Slightly early to tea with rain stopping play, Australia currently 137-5. It's like a one-dayer out there with the Aussies trying to get the runs on the board as quickly as possible. One way or another, England will be in to bat again today (weather permitting).
Come on Manchester, show us one of your legendary downpours! -

The Light Meter's been out and the Players are off much to the amusement and chagrin of the commentary team, and the Aussie team.
Currently the Aussies are 172-7 , 331 ahead and you're right Scotty, they have been piling these runs on quick, maybe wanting another 20, but to be honest, with 331 they may well decide that's enough... How confident is Michael Clarke of his bowlers, let alone his weather forecasting skills...
The umpire's are still out on the square, no covers are on, the floodlights are lit, so come on, let's have some play, I wouldn't regard it as 'dangerous' and the Aussies certainly don't think so.
Those famous words BAD LIGHT STOPPED PLAY...
