It does bring an extra dimension into the matches doesn't it.. Not enough to post a total, you need to post one that hard for D/L to beat you with... and since rain is likely to prove a factor in more matches then this will be a wake up call to the others methinks...

Pakistan have a chance to record their first win as they play Australia this morning. George Bailey wins the toss and Australia decide to field first, with their bug guns hoping to chase down any score the Pakistanis put up...

    Team News:
Australia: DA Warner, AJ Finch, SR Watson, GJ Maxwell, GJ Bailey©, BJ Hodge, BJ Haddin(Wkt), MA Starc, NM Coulter-Nile, GB Hogg, DE Bollinger
Pakistan: Ahmed Shehzad, Kamran Akmal(Wkt), Mohammad Hafeez©, Umar Akmal, Shoaib Malik, Sohaib Maqsood, Shahid Afridi, Bilawal Bhatti, Umar Gul, Zulfiqar Babar, Saeed Ajmal

No Johnson for Australia, as apparently his toe infection has spread to his leg!!! So Dougie Bollinger steps in and Nathan Coulter-Nile comes in for the injured James Faulkner...

A nice early wicket for Bollinger in the 2nd over, that of Shehzad, 7-1 and Watson picks off Hafeez in the 5th, 25-2, going nicely for Australia at the moment...
36-2 at the end of the PowerPlay...

Pakistan pick up the pace and Umar Akmal reaches 50 off 28 balls..
A couple more wickets go down but Umar Akmal is hitting it everywhere until he gets out for 94 in the 20th over, he will be disappointed at that...
Pakistan: 191-5 and that's a nice score and one that will test the Aussies... game on...

Mmmm, not the kind of start the Aussies was looking for as they lose Warner and then Watson in the first over, spinner Zulfiqar Babar is overjoyed 8-2.

Glenn Maxwell though has other ideas, as it's now his turn to swing the bat, 57-2 from the PowerPlay with Maxwell 38 from 15 balls, that's a little bit better...

Maxwell then hits a 4, a 6 and another 6 to reach his 50 in only 18 balls!! If he keeps this up, it will be a walkover for the Aussies...

The hundred partnership is reached in the 10th over, 117-2 at the end of it, Pakistan are not looking so happy now...

Oooooo... Maxwell is dropped, they might live to regret that!!!
Hang on though, next over and Afridi pulls one out of the bag and does get Maxwell who made 74 from 33 balls, he's swung the game back to the Aussies... 126-3

Bailey doesn't score as quickly, only 4 from 9, and Afridi gets his 2nd wicket... 146-4 with just about 5 overs to go... tense stuff...

It's starting to go wrong for the Aussies now, Hodge is out for 2 in the 17th over, 155-5, 27 balls left and 37 runs needed...

18th over and Finch has his stump flattened by Ajmal, out for 65, they needed him to stay with Haddin, 162-6 and 2 overs left, needs some boundary clearing now...

Coulter-Nile wasn't out there long, as Umar Gul also flattens his stumps... 163-7, Pakistan have their smiles back now...

169-7 with 1 over to go, and 23 needed, if it's not a boundary with each ball, it's curtains... Not only can't they find boundaries but Starc is run out, 172-8 with 4 balls left, four 6's it is then!!!
Only a single, three 6's to get a super over... Nop,e Haddin tries but is caught in the deep, 173-9, and to add insult to injury the get Hogg with the last ball... PAKISTAN WIN...

Australia: 175 all out lose by 16 runs

It's the 1st match of the tournament proper for the West Indies as they take on India.

    India wins the toss and they choose to field also... They have an unchanged line up from their match with Pakistan and the W-Indies field the following team;
West Indies: Dwayne Smith, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (Wkt), Darren Sammy ©, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Samuell Badree & Krishmar Santokie.
India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Mahendra Dhoni (C & Wkt), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Amit Mishra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar & Mohammed Shami.

Here come the anthems, let's get this game started....

A decent 1st over from Kumar, just the 1 run from it... Then heavens above, Chris Gayle is only put down at 1st slip in the 2nd over!!! Wowser, not a difficult catch but Ashwin spills it anyway...

A sedate 24-0 from the PowerPlay overs... time for Gayle to start winding that bat up...

Gayle must be a cat, cos he's got 9 lives today, another dropped catch in the 7th over!!! Dhoni is not looking too pleased...
But next over Smith goes for only 11, c & b Ashwin, 38-1

Half way through, and only 46-1, I was expecting a bit of a faster pace from West Indies than this, although India has been bowling well..

The pressure is starting to tell, and it ends up with Chris Gayle getting run out in the 13th over, making 34 from 33 balls - 62-2

It's all going tits up for the W-Indies, Samuels is stumped by Dhoni in the 15th over, and the very next ball Dwane Bravo is given out lbw, 2 in 2 for Mishra... 74-4

Christ, another catch missed... If India had taken these, the West Indies would be out by now!!! but no worry, a few balls later and Sammy is out, caught at long on, 97-5 with two and a half overs to go... Not a good match at all for the W-Indies...

Simmons is out, no hang on, they are having a look, and it is a no ball, so he comes back to the middle...

Last over, first ball and Russell becomes Jadeja's 2nd wicket, 108-6... Two 6's from Simmons... talk about too little too late... then he too is out, 3 now for Jadeja... 121-7, Narine comes in and slashes a 6 but that's it, 20 overs are up...

West Indies: 129-7 A very poor show from the West Indies, they couldn't get to grips with the Indian bowling at all... Time to see what Narine & Co can muster, but this score seems very light, just 6.5 an over needed, kindergarden stuff almost...

    RussyRover > 23/03/2014, 16:28

131 needed last time against Pakistan and only 130 needed here tonight for India, can't really ask for a better start to the tournament can you?

    Breaking News
"Breaking news from the England camp. Stuart Broad has been fined 15% of his match fee for his comments regarding the match officials after the New Zealand game"...
Serves him right, absolutely no problem with the umpires, if the shoe was on the other foot, he would have been singing their praises....

lol, back too the game in hand and we are being told that there was a scoreboard error and the W-Indies total was actually 130 not 129!!! not that it makes much difference Rolleyes or is it, still some confusion...

Here we go, finally under way... and holy smoke, Dhawan is caught lbw in the 5th ball of the over by Badree, 1-1, this may be a match after all!!!

No such problems for Kohli as he starts despatching the ball for boundaries... 28-1 after 4 overs...
The boundaries continue to come, this will all be over too quick if they keep this up... 48-1 at the end of the PowerPlay overs...

India do not have the same problem reading the West Indian bowlers... Yet more boundaries, pretty much a very one sided match here...
Half way through, and India are 76-1, just some batting practice now then really...
Another 50 for Kohli, 101-1 after 13 overs... Rohit Sharma follows with his 50 soon after, these two look as if they will see this out...

I spoke too soon, Kohli is out for 54 in the 15th over, 107-2

India are making much harder work of this than it needs be... so much so that they take it into the final over and then Yuvraj gets out with 3 balls to go... 129-3

At last India: 130-3 win by 7 wickets with 2 balls to spare.... another win but yet again, they should have had this sown up a few overs ago...

Back to Group 1 today and New Zealand take on South Africa, with NZ hoping to make it 2 from 2 and the Proteas needing their first win...

NZ win the toss and decide to bowl first as McCullum says he's worried about the dew later on... Faf says he wanted to bat anyway, so looks like everyone's got what they wanted...

South Africa make 39-2 from the Powerplay, de Kock out for 4 and du Plessis out for 13...
10 overs through and 61-3, just the 1 further wicket of de Villiers, out for 5...

Pretty ordinary stuff until the last 5 overs where SA put on 70 runs to make it a respectable score, South Africa: 170-6 with J P Duminy the main man hitting 86 not out from 43 balls...

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So 8.55 an over for NZ then, certainly not an impossible task...

47-0 from the PowerPlay overs, that sets them up pretty well...
@ 10 overs it's 77-2 with Guptill out for 22 and Big Bad Brendon McCullum only making 4, that's the wicket SA wanted...

Kane Williamson gets his 50 then gets out... but NZ are still on target, Ross Taylor hits 50 off only 26 balls, then wickets start to fall around him... SA are back in the game, and it's close, very close...

Last over, 164-5, NZ need 7 more... oops a wicket (Ronchi), dot ball, another dot ball!!!, a 4, then another wicket (Nathan McCullum)... last ball and 3 needed for the win... but it's a good ball from Steyn and he runs out Taylor... New Zealand: 168-7, lose by 2 runs...

Thrilling stuff, SA get on the board with that win... and if Steyn doesn't get the MOM then it will be a travesty... well, it's given to JP Duminy, I suppose that's OK, he did put them in a position to get the win...

Next up will be the Netherlands first outing in the Super 10 stages against Sri Lanka... 7/1 if you fancy the Dutch!!! No, well Sri Lanka are 1/12, you won't get rich at those odds...
  • RE: 2014 World T20

    RussyRover > 24/03/2014, 15:36

Netherlands vs Sri Lanka - Sri Lanka win the toss, and they will take to the field first, seems to be a common theme if you win the toss these days... Both teams field unchanged sides...

    Netherlands
Stephan Myburgh, Michael Swart, Wesley Barresi (Wkt), Tom Cooper, Ben Cooper, Peter Borren ©, Logan Van Beek, Mudassar Bukhari, Timm Van Der Gugten, Pieter Seelaar, Ahsan Jamil
    Sri Lanka
Kushal Perera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara (Wkt), Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal ©, Thisara Perera, Nuwan Kulasekara, Sachithra Senanayake, Ajantha Mendis, Lasith Malinga

The anthems get going, and going and going, well the Sri Lankan one does anyways!!!

Game on... Kulasekara to bowl and 3rd ball, it's 1 wicket down... Mathews bowls the 2nd over, it's 4th ball this time and another wicket, 1-2, this is not looking good (that may be the biggest understatement of all time!!!)
Hang on , it gets worse as very next ball, Barresi is walking back to the dug out, 1-3... egads... Mathews on a hat-trick ball, but we have a floodlight failure, lol, perhaps it was coming out in sympathy with the Dutch... Soon fixed though... let's play, no hat-trick for Mathews...

It's further misery as the Dutch Captain, Peter Borren goes for a duck in the 4th, 9-4...
They survive through the PowerPlay, 15-4 after 6 overs...

All too soon though it starts again as first Ben Cooper is run out then two overs later Tom Cooper is out lbw by Mendis, 33-6...

The 10th over... 3rd ball in and Van Beek is bowled by Malinga, 36-7, will they make it to 50 runs?!?!?!
Yikes... 3 balls later at the end of the 10th over Bukhari is also bowled by Malinga, 39-8... that 1/12 for Sri Lanka is looking mighty good odds if you took it...

Shit-fuck-tittywank... that's what the Dutch are thinking, as very next ball, Seelaar edges Mendis to the slips, 39-9... In comes Ahsan Jamil, 11th man, so obviously not known for his batting and he only lasts two balls, lbw..
NETHERLANDS: 39 all out from 10.3 overs...

What can you say! It's not only the record lowest score at a World T20, it's the record lowest score for a Twenty20 international... So at least the Dutch will go away from the tournament with 1 record lol...

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How many overs will Sri Lanka need then? 5,6 maybe...

Perera does his best to get himself out in the 1st over, but 6 runs come from it instead... 34 more needed...

They want it over and down with quickly, a 4, a 6 then Perera does get out as he lobs a ball up to mid on... 20-1 at the end of the 2nd over...

No mega rush from Sri Lanka though, 6 from the next over and 4 from the 4th, 30-1, just 10 more needed...

Jayawardene also tries to hole out to mid on, but he is dropped!! Just nothing going right for the Netherlands... that's it, end of the 5th over and that's the single they need...

SRI LANKA: 40-1 win by 9 wickets... with 15 overs left...

Quite unbelievable really, neither side would be expecting this to happen today, the Dutch are certainly not that bad a team, but today it all went horribly wrong... Perhaps they'll do better against South Africa on Thursday....

Just the one match today with Bangladesh taking on West Indies and the West Indies need to start playing properly, they were awful against India... While Bangladesh will be looking to get off to a winning start in the Super 10 Group...

and a winning start by Bangladesh as they win the toss and guess what??? yep, they will bowl first... it almost seems that winning the toss gives you that edge somehow so far...

    Team News:
Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Anamul Haque, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (C & Wkt), Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Ziaur Rahman, Sohag Gazi, Mashrafe Mortaza, Al-Amin Hossain.
West Indies: Dwayne Smith, Chris Gayle, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Bravo, Denesh Ramdin (Wkt), Darren Sammy ©, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Krishmar Santokie.

Dwayne Smith and Chris Gayle to start it off as usual and both need a better day than against India...
and a better start it is with the West Indies 36-0 after the Powerplay...
10 overs and half way through and Smith gets his 50 and the W-Indies are 74-0

Smith has a great start and makes 72 from 43 balls before being caught at fine leg, 97-1, Chris Gayle though is still finding it tough to get going...
Simmons comes in and walks straight back off as he's stumped 1st ball, 98-2...
At least Samuels lasts longer than that and he and Gayle push forward until the big man gets out in the 19th over, 48 from 48 balls.. 154-3, a few more boundaries needed and they'll post a decent score...
Darren Sammy comes in to play the Captain's bash and slash... he slashes alright and is dropped out at long off... and it's a boundary as well lol...
Last over and Al-Amin Hossain to bowl... Sweet, 1st ball a wicket (Samuels), 2nd ball a wicket (Russell)!!! he's on a hat-trick... no wicket and a bye ran.. then 4th ball, yep another wicket... this time it's Bravo who's walking back... what a last over, for the Bangladeshis' anyway.. Last ball and Ramdin gets run out...
4 wickets in that last over, the W-Indies still have some problems it seems... Still a decent enough score, can they defend it though?!?

    West Indies: 171-7

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A fair enough start from Bangladesh as they make 13 from the first two overs... but then...
Tamim is out caught to nice diving catch from Bravo in the 3rd followed by a stumping that had to be reviewed in the 1st ball of the 4th over... oh crikey, 2nd ball and Shakib Al Hasan loses his off stump as he plays around the ball, 16-3 and Santokie also on a hat-trick now... and also misses out due to resolute defending...
The end of the PowerPlay with the score 29-3... the W-Indies seem to be in control... have been wrong before though :D

10th over and Narine gets his 1st wicket, Mominul Haque out caught at fine leg... 57-4 at the end of the over.

Next ball & Badree is back into the action as Rahman hits him to short mid wicket and straight to Darren Sammy... Two balls later and a cracker of a catch by Bravo, the umpires review it to make sure it's clean... it is and 2 for Badree in the over... wait make that 3 as with the last ball Mahmudullah edges it to the keeper... 59-7

6 overs to go and at 70-7 the home side need 102 from 36 balls, that's only 3 a ball , easy peasey!!!

Losing wickets doesn't help as Ziaur Rahman loses his leg stump to give Russell a wicket and some consolation for getting a golden duck earlier today, 73-8

So the W-Indies are going to win, the question is by how much, this will do their Run Rate some good... the Bangladeshis' seem to be batting out the full 20 though... Famous last words as 19th over and Santokie gets his 3rd wicket, Mortaza caught by Bravo after previously being put down by Samuels... 97-9 7 balls to go...
They can't make it though as Russell takes Gazi's middle stump... all over with 5 balls left

BANGLADESH: 98 all out from 19.1 overs - lose by 73 runs...
So points on the board for the W-Indies, they needed that, and so did I as I put wonga on them!!!
