  One film in the X-men franchise that I must admit i've been looking forward to, Gambit, has been dropped from the release schedule
  
  Although given they have Channing Tatum as Gambit, i'm kind of in 2 minds about this, yes finding out Gambit's history will be cool, personally I think Taylor Kitsch was great for the role, Tatum is too bulky in my opinion

  Officially it's not completely dropped yet, just delayed yet again. Honestly i can see this never being made though, it's had a tentative release date planned and ultimately dropped a few times though now.
  I can't say i'd be all that disappointed if it was, i think Gambit deserves a chance in a proper X-men film first, start him off in a solo film and if it bombs the character will never be used again which would be a shame.
  
  I don't think either are ideal casting for Gambit, Kitsch was ok but he dropped the accent after about a sentence and just spoke in his regular voice for the rest of his role as Gambit. And i'm with you on Tatum being too big for the role, although he isn't the worst actor for the part.

  Apparently Channing Tatum was chosen for the role as he can do a Cajun accent!!, totally the wrong choice, someone smaller built, like Chris Pine would have been better suited to play Gambit

  Well i think the official line is they still intend to make it, although i don't see it being dropped again as a good sign.
  
  If he could get himself looking slimmer he wouldn't look far off, Gambit is still supposed to be tall, but i can't recall him ever dropping some of his bulk for a role. I think he may have gotten bigger for some role as a wrestler for a film i forget the name of but that's about it.
  I doubt Chris Pine would now, he's in Star Trek, and apparently Wonder Woman, two ongoing film series is enough for most actors.
  
  Josh Holloway was supposed to Gambit at one point, around X3, he would have been good actually. But probably not the right age now.

  The news of a Gambit movie coming out didnt exactly have me doing backflips but as a character, he does deserve a crack at a proper go on film. Tatum (urgh) doesnt look the part, Kitsch kinda looked the part but something just wasnt working for me (accent aside). Chris Pine would be a happy medium but with a schedule like that and i suppose casting an unknown or lesser known actor is something fox wouldnt be willing to take a financial chance on. Delays are always a pain in the arse but if its delays at the expense of a crap film, let it be delayed as long as need be.

  I just don't see Gambit having a film before ever appearing with other X-men or whatever. I don't think he's widely enough known as a character to be that successful a film without first raising the profile in another film.
  I don't think either casting has been ideal, Kitsch wasn't great and Tatum seems wrong for it. Personally I think it would be better to have another X-men film after Apocalypse (set later, so around Deadpool in the timeline) and have Gambit introduced in a substantial role in that.

  It would definatly have done the character a credit to have had a substantial role in atleast one of the xmen films (yeah, why not apocalypse) prior to being given his own standalone movie. Saying that though im struggling to think of many xmen universe characters that could really hold their own in their own stand alone film. Wolverine worked as a standalone but the prospect of say Cyclops or Jean etc..they do work better as an ensemble if you ask me.

  Yeah i question whether Gambit can really sustain his own film anyway, and combine that with no previous appearance to build on it will be a hard sell i think. Honestly not many of the X-men characters could really sustain their own film and those that could would probably need an introduction to gather some interest from the general audience before going into a solo film.

  I do agree it would have made more sense to give him a more prominent role in an X-Men film before leaping to a stand alone, however i'd say there are a few characters ahead of him who'd be more deserving of a stand alone film, we saw part of Cyclops in Origins, a Cyclops film would be interesting

  I agree with the idea of a Cyclops film, Cyclops has been badly mishandled in the films. The films have made given him little more to do than say various different ways of telling Logan to stay away from Jean and in the second X-men film he got owned by the first enemy he fought and didn't appear again until the end brainwashed by the villain (and not forgetting killed offscreen in X3).
