In this case by using their phones, a person can ask the special "LG HomeChat" service to see what food they have left in the fridge or whether the washing machine should turn off.
I think this is about the limit of it. You can't engage in friendly conversation with the fridge. All you get is "You have some leftover chicken from last night which you didn't eat because you MADE TOO MUCH you stupid bastard" or "There's a nice bit of cheese here. Ah now it's not so nice as it's been here so long it's gone off. Come sort this out would you?"
Alternatively with the washing machine all you would get is this "You do know you still have clothes in here that haven't been washed yet. COME AND SORT IT OUT YOU USELESS PERSON" or words to that effect.
