The tournament gets going today with all British eyes on Andy Murray. He'll begin with a first round match against Germany's Benjamin Becker (no relation to Boris) at around 5pm this evening.
After a great 2012 when we won the Olympic title and the US Open, and having shaken off injuries to come in to this tournament in good form, is this Murray's best chance yet to end the long, long wait for a British male Wimbledon champion? -

Well Djokovic is the favourite at a shade over evens and you can get Murray from about 3/1 or 4/1, but Murray seems to have the much harder half of the draw, looking at a semi with Nadal (if Nadals' knee holds up!!), and a possible QF with Tsonga, who will be no walk over either.. So I hope Murray takes it sensible, builds it up through the first couple of rounds and hits his peak for the quarters, then we'll probably see some more tears lol...
Italian Flavia Pennetta has just ousted Elena Baltacha 6-4, 6-1. That's a Brit casualty, although Pennetta is a class player, Elena must have fancied her chances for this one.
Next up on the same court is GB's Kyle Edmund vs 24 seed Jerzy Janowicz of Poland, that should be casualty number 2 in a row from the same court...
Oh well, at least we have Murray later on for some good news. -

Nadal's out! Bad news for the tournament but good news for Murray, one less of the 'other 3' to worry about now. -

Well that was an interesting first day, Nadal beaten in straight sets by Steve Darcis (ranked 135) and I imagine both Federer and Murray both breathed a little sigh of relief. However even though Nadal wouldn't talk about his knee problem in his interview, rather praising Darcis himself, was a nice gesture but his knee must be of some concern as he was nowhere near his top form, on the grass court anyway, and the reason he is now out. Yes Darcis played a good match but Nadal on a normal day would have had him pegged...
Andy Murray had a tough first set against Benjamin Becker, but a relatively easy 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win sees him into round 2 where he will play Yen-Hsun Lu who saw off another Brit, James ward, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6.
Federer had a seemingly easy match against Romanian Hanescu 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 and Tsonga also had a straight sets win against Belgian David Goffin, and good old Lleyton Hewitt also had a straight sets victory over 11th seed Stan Wawrinka.
For the ladies, Azarenka had scare in the second set going down after twisting her knee but after a medical time out, and a knee strap, got back to it to see off Koehler of Portugal 6-1, 6-2.
Sharapove came through a tight first set to beat Mladenovic of France 7-6, 6-3, that should have got her juices flowing so to speak lol...
Kvitova needed 3 sets to beat Vandeweghe of the US but number 5 seed Sara Errani fell in straight sets to teenager Monica Puig of Puerto Rico.
So, how did the brits do on day one, apart from Andy that is.
Anne Keothavong, James Ward, Elena Baltacha, Kyle Edmund, Samantha Murray and Johanna Konta all suffered defeats.
Who will be the surprises on day two? -

So Nadal, Federer and Tsonga are all out for one reason or another, it's looking like a relatively straightforward route to a potential final against Novak Djokovic for Andy Murray.
Obviously that wouldn't be at all easy, but this is looking like Murray's best chance yet to clinch the Wimbledon title. -

Who would have believed it Scotty?? Before the start Murray was in the supposed hard half of the draw, now it's looking like a clean path for him, dare we call another Murray vs Djokovic final and this time Murray triumphant. Even though the others must be fancying their chances now as well with the big guns gone.
DAY TWO:
Well Day 2 proved an easy straight sets win for Djokovic against Florian Mayer, a 4 sets win for David Ferrer vs Argentinian Alund and a straight sets win for the other Argie Del Potro and the same for Berdych, so no big surprises for the men.
For the women, Serena only dropped 4 games vs Minella of Luxembourg, Lisicki creamed Schiavone 6-1, 6-2, but our very own Laura Robson provided the upset of the day by seeing off 10th seed Kirilenko - well done girl....
Also our Tara Moore had a very good game against Kaia Kanepi taking it to 3 sets but the Estonian just had a little too much for her and of course Heather Watson fell to the American Keys earlier in the day.
DAY THREE or Weird and Withdrawal Wednesday it was called... What was up with everyone, getting injured pulling out etc etc... it was like an episode of the twilight zone lol... but excellent news for Murray and Djokovic.
The biggest upset of course was Federer going out in 4 sets to Stakhovsky, I watched that match and Federer was not on top form, is his age finally catching up to him?
Other retirees were Tsonga, Cilic, hard hitting Isner and Nadals conqueror Darcis !!!!!! while for the women Azarenka being the most notable.
Then Sharapova loses to Portugal's Larcher De Brito (who you may well ask...) and then tries to blame the grass??? Then Ana Ivanovic loses to Canadian Bouchard, and by then my head was starting to hurt... What a weird day indeed... lets hope Day 4 will be more normal.
