These are the current favourites to replace Mauricio Pochettino at St Mary's.
Murat Yakin - 2/1
Out of work after a couple of successful seasons in charge of Basel, where they won two Swiss titles and impressed in Europe. Not unlike Pochettino in encouraging an attacking and entertaining style of football, and he has a good record when it comes to developing youngsters too. The best of them (Xherdan Shaqiri and Mohamed Salah) were inevitably sold, and the experience of dealing with big-name departures could be handy this summer at Southampton. Only real downside is that he's never managed in a top European league.
Ronald Koeman - 7/2
In charge at Feyenoord since 2011, in which time they've finished second twice and third once in the Dutch league. Getting past Ajax seems to be the major issue and after three seasons of trying, maybe now might be the time to move on? There won't be any Champions League football on the south coast though (not even Europa) so it wouldn't be surprising to see him hold out for a job at a more established club.
Michael Laudrup - 7/1
Nothing wrong at all with his first season in charge of Swansea and that League Cup winning pedigree might well be Southampton's jam. Definitely the go-to guy if you're looking to pick up bargains from the Spanish league too (Michu only cost £2m, you know). The downturn in form and dressing room disharmony that led to his sacking last season might be a concern though.
Gus Poyet - 7/1
He was Brighton manager when they were kicking around in League One and the Championship at the same time as Southampton, and every time the two sides met he'd always manage to do or say something that'd piss the Saints fans off. Long memories and all that, so this wouldn't be the most popular of appointments. Bit of a sideways step from Sunderland too, probably not worth the hassle...
Neil Lennon - 10/1
Three titles and two cups in just four years! Scotland though innit, and not just any old Scotland, a Scotland with Rangers in financial meltdown before being banished to the lower leagues. He was linked with the Norwich job before they gave it to Neil Adams and that's probably more his level, for now anyway.
Malky Mackay - 10/1
Did a decent job at Cardiff, but much like how Andy Carroll's reputation at West Ham soared when he was out injured last season, Mackay's stock seems to have risen by dint of not being Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and staying well clear of Vincent Tan. Could do alright, but there are names further up this list that'd be better suited to the job.
