24-year-old Daniela Liverani found an unpleasant surprise when she returned from Vietnam. Warning: This is about to get really gross.

While in south-east Asia, Liverani began suffering from consistent nose bleeds, which she attributed to a small motorbiking accident.

When she returned home to Edinburgh the bleeding had stopped, but something strange appeared in one of her nostrils. Liverani shook it off thinking it was merely a blood-clot and that it would be fine.

It wasn’t until she got a closer look that she could tell what she thought was a normal clot was actually a small animal.

It took the ER staff about 30 minutes to remove the three-inch-long, creature that had been living off of the blood in her nasal cavity for a month.

While she has no idea how the leech got into her system, it could have entered while she was swimming or from ingesting contaminated water.
