TRANSFER RUMOURS - 19th May

There's only one reason why the "best young player in Europe" (Brendan Rodgers, April 2014) would turn down the opportunity to be played out of position in the Europa League next season as Liverpool once again fail to mount a title (or any other trophy for that matter) challenge; money. Your John Barneses, your Phil Thompsons, they can't understand it. Why would the boy Sterling want to leave a club with such a rich history? Could it maybe be because their last league win came five years before he was born and he'd quite like to win something in the present? We can't know for sure. All we can be certain of is that the transfer request will be submitted by the end of the week and Arsenal and Man City are really very interested.
Whilst the three clubs set about working that one out there's every chance the conversation may move on to James Milner. He's definitely leaving City at the end of the season, but likely to be snubbing the Scousers and walking alone like that bastard Raheem, all the way to the Emirates.
Rodgers and the all-conquering transfer committee will be alright, they'll dust themselves down and go again, get some bids in for Stevan Jovetic and Christian Benteke. Who knows, between them the pair may do a passable job of replacing Luis Suarez. Might next year even be Liverpool's?
Keepers. Southampton are keen on loaning Wojciech Szczesny to cover for the injured Fraser Forster, and Arsenal could replace him with Petr Cech. Real Madrid are also said to be interested in the Chelsea stopper, but...
They'll probably sign David De Gea instead. Which would be heartbreaking.
Let's leave it there.
