TRANSFER RUMOURS! 18th August

Man Utd are still chasing Angel Di Maria, Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind, though presumably with a touch more urgency in the wake of Saturday's performance. Kevin Strootman's been mentioned again too. Odd really, as the treatment room is one area where they look reasonably well stocked at the minute. Big noises regardless, that is until you hear how they might sign Philippe Mexes (surprisingly only 32, but still) instead of Medhi Benatia on account of him being loads cheaper. You have got funds haven't you, Ed? It's just that it's all gone a bit quiet this past month or so...
Southampton will offer £8m for Lazio midfielder Alvaro Gonzalez after their £10m bid for Andros Townsend was rejected. He looks to be staying put, which is more than can be said for Roberto Soldado (Atletico) and Lewis Holtby (QPR or Palace). Once he's moved a few on Mauricio Pochettino will move for Fredy Guarin. United are keen too but, you know, skint.
Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all on 'red alert'! Why? Ezequiel Lavezzi's stalling on a new contract at PSG. Now Anfield's such a destination, Alex Song, Edinson Cavani and Radamel Falcao get a mention too. Lucky them.
The Gunners, meanwhile, may or may not be in the process of making Olympiakos centre half Kostas Manolas cough for the doctor ahead of an £8m move. Samuel Eto'o's keen on a season at the Emirates also.
Jonathan de Guzman's probably going to Napoli, not Swansea; Morgan Amalfitano's off to West Ham and Crystal Palace might just bloody well offer Glenn Murray plus cash in exchange for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham.
