  Standard Liege have just completed the signing of Mexican stopper Guillermo Ochoa from Malaga.
  
  The move represents something of a coup for the Belgian side but don't be too quick to congratulate...
  
  They've given him the number 8 (eight!!) shirt.

  Samuel Eto'o wearing 5 at Everton and William Gallas representing Arsenal with a 10 on his back weren't ideal scenarios, but at least they were outfield players with outfield squad numbers.  Ochoa and his new employers have taken things to a whole new level here and basically ruined football.
  
  They should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

  Are we all sure it is an 8 and not an S for Standard Liege as that is who he has just signed for? But if this is the case then I am sure there was an outfield player wearing 1 and Bradley Wright-Phillips plays with a number 99 for New York Red Bulls so numbers mean nothing anymore! And for my local pub team we had a number 69 and I had 72.

  Burns is right, that does look more like an 'S', than an '8', there have been a couple of outfield players to wear a '1' shirt, the first one was an Olympiakos player, I think, where the goalkeeper ended up wearing '71', another was Edgar Davids, when he was player/manager of Barnet

  I should have known being someone who has an Olympiakos shirt and friends in Greece who are fans so take an interest in them and their scores when I can. And now I can picture the red and white striped shirt with a 1 on the back and I believe it was a midfielder who was wearing it (google time) it was Pantelis Kafes and he wore it at AEK Athens as well. Also Stuart Balmer of Charlton and Ossie Ardiles wore 1 when squad numbers were assigned in alphabetical order! There have been a 0 and just seen a 618 to commemorate a goalkeepers 618th appearance and he had one for his 700th (Rogerio Ceni of Santos).

  Says 'numero ocho' (number eight) in the tweet so definitely not an 's'.
  
  Rogerio Ceni can do one as well burns.
