Horror fans will no doubt know who Annabelle is - the creepy-ass doll first made her appearance in the first
Conjuring movie where she proved to be popular that she got her own movie simply entitled
Annabelle. She later got another film which was a prequel titled
Annabelle: Creation, which was freakin dreadful in my opinion.
Just when you thought the whole
Annabelle train was coming to a halt,
New Line Cinema goes and drops a 2019 release date for the next film from the
Conjuring franchise.
No one knows for sure yet if the film is going to be centred around Annabelle, with some speculating that it might be
The Crooked Man or
Conjuring 3. However, word on the street is that the working title is the
Annabelle project. Director of the other
Annabelle films, Gary Dauberman says:
Quote:I think Annabelle: Creation proved by the end of it that there is more to the Annabelle story that needs to be told. I mean, the mere fact that she’s a doll kind of allows that. How many kids out there have the same doll? Visually, I mean. Same packaging, same hair, same eyes, same whatever. But it’s unique to them, right?Same doll but each kid creates a different back-story, a different history, a different story which makes their doll their very own even though it might look like a million others out there.
It’s kind of the opposite for Annabelle. She remains the same but the people she encounters all have different stories and different fears and she’s going to use those for her own purposes until you discover, much too late - that she isn’t the toy… you are. And she’s playing you.
Am I the one one cringing at that last line? I just feel like the creepy toy thing is so overdone. Horror is going in a different direction now with movies such as
Get Out and
A Quiet Place and I'm liking this new exciting style. But I guess there's room for all different kinds of horror and maybe this new
Annabelle movie will be better than the last two. Here's hoping.
The third
Annabelle movie will hit cinemas July 3rd 2019.
