Alan Pardew signed an 8 year deal at Newcastle last September. They'd finished 5th in 2011/12 and were at the beginning of what turned out to be a reasonably successful Europa League campaign. Of course the demands of that competition understandably had an adverse effect on their league form, and they weren't clear of relegation last season until a couple of weeks from the end.

I'm not the world's biggest Pardew fan, he's tactically naive and doesn't seem to know how to turn things round when results start heading south. His record in the transfer market at Newcastle has been excellent though. The likes of Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Cisse have all come in for modest fees under his watch, and if they were sold tomorrow it would be with healthy profits.

Which is why the appointment of Joe Kinnear doesn't seem quite right. As director of football he'll have final say on transfers at the club. Seems odd, but fair enough. It's this quote that's far more telling though, "I'll sit down with Alan Pardew and talk to him about the strengths, weaknesses and what we need to be successful, I know I've got more knowledge than anyone at Newcastle as a football manager."

    As a football manager.

I'd imagine 8 year contracts are quite expensive to break. So rather than sack him, maybe the board just thought they'd find the most difficult person they could to appoint as 'director of football' , and wait for Pardew to resign?

And when he does, Kinnear can be manager again. And Newcastle can get relegated, again.

Never a dull moment is it?

    Shola Amenobee
    Yohan Kebab
    Hatem Ben Afre

And a load more nonsense too.

Full interview with Joe Kinnear here. Unbelievable stuff.

I have no idea what the fuck Newcastle are playing at, why do they always try and fuck up the good work a manager has done. I no last season didnt quite go how they wanted but they had a relatively small squad and played a shit load of games. adding so many players in January didnt help as they struggled to gel, but given a full preseason and a couple of signings i didnt think they would have any problems this season and Pardew was doing an ok job

but i guess thats why i'm on a wank forum and they are multi millionaires

Newcastle fans have been left reeling at the appointment of Joe Kinnear.

Sky Tyne and Wear set ourselves a challenge - could we find ANYONE who supported the signing of the already beleaguered boss?

Our reporters spent three hours and spoke to 100 people trying to find one Newcastle United fan who backed Kinnear's appointment as director of football.

Watch to find out if we did.

I think they could do with a shift on the wank forum, until they've learnt their lesson like.

All good points though Chub, you're talking sense. Newcastle don't do sense by the looks of it though.

Derek Llambias just resigned. No reason given, but you could probably have a decent guess at it.

I do like a good soap.

Interesting article here on Joe Kinnear's spell as Nottingham Forest manager.

The comments made then are worryingly similar to the breeze he's currently chatting.

This has made me chuckle, talk about getting burned twice!!!

In case Joe’s footballing credentials have slipped anyone’s mind, in the four years he has been out of the game. He has been keen to remind the world’s press that he is a ‘great tactician’... a ‘great judge of character and players’... is ‘ideal’ for the job... and apparently ‘in the best physical shape I’ve ever been in’. lol...

That last comment we can probably put down to over-enthusiasm – after all, he’s 66 and has a dodgy ticker. But he seems to have developed a selective memory since his departure in 2009.

And some other info I got sent...
Aside from the number of Manager of the Year awards (he says three, actually it’s one), players he has taken to Newcastle (he says goalkeeper Tim Krul, actually that was Graeme Souness) and how much they cost (he says John Hartson was a ‘free’, actually he cost £7.5 million).

He also makes a dubious stand defending his role in Newcastle’s 2009 relegation yesterday, he said: ‘We were 12th when I had my heart attack. You could get a million to one we’d go down. From there we got relegated. People tried to implicate me when the club went down. That was a load of crap. I’ve never been manager of a club that’s been relegated.’

    Well that’s not strictly true...

1,000,000/1 doesn’t sound like any of the bookies I use.... And in 2003 he did in fact take Luton down.

He also took Nottingham Forest to the foot of the table when they got relegated in 2004/05 – but bailed out at Christmas, so that was someone else’s fault too.

Any odds on whether Pardew will still be there for the start of the new season????
