The FA announced earlier today that there are no plans to release an official anthem for Russia 2018.
As much as the news feels like an affront to tradition and all that's sacred in the world, it is worth bearing in mind that there's not been a halfway listenable England song released for about twenty years. Ian McCulloch and the Spice Girls, Ant & Dec, James Corden and Dizzie Rascal; we're looking at you.
Maybe it's time the whole concept was put out of its misery?
Or maybe it's time Ben Dover answered the call and got the band back together?
England expects an underwhelming second round exit! England expects this disappointment to be soundtracked by an uplifting dance number with a pornographic video!
Come on Ben, only you can save us now... -

We've already established that there won't be an official England song this summer, but we're not out of the woods by any means. If anything, the lack of an FA-backed focal point just means the swathes of unaffiliated acts will be receiving more attention.
First out of the traps is this effort from punk supergroup The Tallywags, featuring former Sex Pistols and Professionals drummer Paul Cook, Tom Spencer from The Professionals and The Men They Couldn’t Hang and Chris McCormack from The Professionals and Three Colours Red.
Hmm, that kind of just sounds like The Professionals are using an alias to avoid embarrassment.
They needn't have worried. The song's surprisingly decent. Plenty catchy enough and the football references don't feel too forced either. Always a danger, that.

Its a shame not to have a new song but you,ll have to go a long way to beat England fans in full voice especially to my fave England song

The Kaiser Chiefs were a bunch of cheifs who played cunts music. I fucking loathed them and their appalling dog shit, turds of songs. I never thought I could hate the lead singer more than I already did but this has cracked it. What an absolute fucking cunt. My god, I've never been a twitter troll but if there was something that made me test the waters it would be to harass this prick. -
