Slim pickings again for fans of teams lower down the food chain. When the window shut you lot were left well and truly out in the cold, no mistaking. The best you can hope for now is that some Billy Big Bollocks will come along and make a bid for your star player. QPR are still getting linked with people of course (Carlton Cole, Billy Sharp, Emmanuel Adebayor, Harry Kane) but that’s different, Arry’s given a lot over the years and it’s only right he gets a little back. You understand.
So it’s all big time from here on in, and let’s start with the biggest of them all, a transfer so stellar it’s still causing shockwaves a month on… Apparently Gareth Bale flew back from talks with Madrid one day back in late September to discuss a move to Man Utd, who it seems bid a frankly mental £120m. David Moyes is clearly still smarting from that one, so will make a £25m offer for Luke Shaw in January. He plays on the left, Southampton academy blah blah. Next best thing.
Andrea Pirlo and Andres Iniesta haven’t signed new contracts! The Juventus man’s potential availability has put United, City, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal (everyone basically) on red alert while United (again) and City (again) will duke it out for the Spaniard. If, like me, you’ve been wondering how United will find room for all these exciting new signings, fear not. Rafael could be off to Corinthians, though if I were them I think I’d send Fabio instead.
Looks like Arsenal are ready to throw a load of cash in the direction of yet more Germans, Schalke’s Julian Draxler and Dortmund’s Marco Reus in particular. They’ll not have much change from £70m if they end up with both.
Chelsea exodus! We’ve all seen it coming. Juan Mata could be set for a reunion with Rafa Benitez at Napoli and Athletic Bilbao are keen on Cesar Azpilicueta.
Abel Hernandez fancies getting away from Serie B and Palermo, and Liverpool may well oblige him.
Paul Ince used to play for Inter. Inter will roll back the years and bid for his son Tom. Then in keeping with tradition, sell him on to Liverpool before he sees out his twilight years at Middlesbrough and Wolves. Symmetry.
