The only thing they could do is remake it shot for shot with new actors and slightly better effects, not that it needs better effects as i watched it again recently and didn't notice any real issue with what was there.
The issue is that it's a money maker people would watch. What they should be doing is coming up with new ideas.
D
on't get me wrong I also think remakes can be a good thing, take a look at Total Recall trailers if you doubt me, but i don't see a need with this film, it's not outdated, it's not got noticably crappy effects and it still has one of the best shoot out scenes in modern film history:
NO NEED TO REMAKE THIS FILM!!!!

as you've both said this film does not need it, it's still a fantastic film, still holds up well against anything modern in all categories you care to judge it. a remake will just destroy the memory of this fantastic film, at the very most i'd be ok with them releasing a collectors version or something maybe with deleted scenes if there are any and the picture sharpened up etc... but that's it, other than that leave it alone
as for total recall i'm undecided on that but i will definitely be watching it, i just hope it has the woman with 3 boobs lol although i doubt it will but it's the sort of film that might do well from a remake because of all the special effects and lets be honest the first one was A.S who's not exactly known for being a great actor, that's not to say he's not made great films but his acting was never really the selling point for any of them.

i think the highlander is one of those films that could be ruined by the remake but if done right i think it could actually be good.
the crow is one of those few films were i can't actually think of anything bad to say about it off the top of my head, the action was good, the story was good, the acting was good etc... etc...

This is just symptomatic of the lack of imagination of current writers and film directors. I think it is also due to the fact that Film Production Companies in the current economic conditions want guaranteed box office success not mater how bland that makes the film. They just do not seem to be prepared to put money in to a chancy project even if this means better films are just not getting made. I think this is the reason why I am not going to the cinema as much as I did.
