  Back in 1990, rose the first inklings of the soon to be giants of the video game world, Sega and Nintendo. Thus began a massive marketing war between them both.
  
  
  
  It's thought of as the battle between Sonic and Mario. They both thought they could try and revitalise the video game market after the infamous downfall of Atari and the the 1983 video game crash. They both knew they had to produce something brilliant to build a fanbase again around video games. So began their war.
  
  The arrival of the Super Mario Bros and Sonic games brought in a massive amount of new gamers who loved the new innovative ideas and gameplay and so the amount of gamers started to rise once again.
  
  What would be your favourite moment from that era? Which games did you really like the look of?

  man i remember those days i was more a nintendo guy so mario was me but, i did get sega to and its easy to say mario was better for me but there is like 200 mario games out on wii u right now so i say mario is winning

  Well Mario and Nintendo did ultimately win hands down. Sega dropped out of the console race after the dreamcast flop and abandoned the Sonic IP for years. Only recently have they started to attempt to revamp sonic but in a very poor way.
  
  As for the early parts of the 'console war', Nintendo always had a bigger market share globally although sega did still do very well for themselves. I think everyone had at least one of them and groups I knew would work out which people what get what and just swap around.
  
  Nintendo have lost their way like sega thesedays as well. Wii U is failing and they just recycle titles now, nothing really original.
